What does /v/ thinks of space empires?
Neat.
Holy shit people actually played it? Next thing I know you're going to say Stars! was good too.

>Stars!
waaaay too oldie.
which reminds me, is there is a scorched earth game that is more modern than you know, the original one?
>>386099131
I don't know scorched earth.
Hell, I barely know Stars! or SE4. I'm kind of surprised... what are they, Malfador Machinations? Still exists.
I ditched SE4 and eventually discovered Sword of the Stars 1. I haven't had one true space love since 2 came out and broke my heart.
>>386099131
well obviously Worms, the latest of which is Worms WMD

>Sword of the Stars
what differs it from SE?
also, scorched earth isn't a 4x game. its mainly a game where plaayers control tanks and shoot each other with various weapons.
>>386099703
oh right, worms.
>>386099632
what about Sword of the Stars: Argos Naval Yard 4th Expansion?
>>386100072
That's what I meant, never played it without born of blood, murder of crows, and ANY. Makes it pretty great. 1000+hours.

Turn based strategic, real time tactical combat. Every race has a distinct FTL drive, ship module layout. Random encounters that will FUCK YOU UP. Randomized research tree (races all have their own weighting to keep you from having the same research path each game or nothing you can count on). More fluff than some rpgs.No sequel.

i don't get it... should i play the expensions or should i stick to vannila?

Play the fucking expansions you mong. They make it the best 4x I have ever played.Though not so good that it doesn't feel dated, mostly graphically, to me now. SotS2 was pretty as fuck.
Also expansions introduce best race as something other than a random encounter.
If you don't like the new races, just turn them off in game creation and enjoy the new scenarios/techs/ships/encounters.

Oh, and be warned, the voice acting is... uh.. Well.
It's an acquired taste.
