I only really played that one and the old one for DS, but I had a good time with both of them. Compare with other installments since I haven't played them.

Super Circuit
It's the only Mario Kart that's a legitimately bad game.

It's alright. Characters were too unbalanced but driving felt good and some of the levels were really fun.

that said it's far better than the Wii and Wii U Mario Kart games which are basically fucking slot machines disguised as racing games.

I used to play mario kart but then I kinda got burnt out on it being nothing but rng and not based actually on skill
Like if you get the correct items you win otherwise you lose, that's it
And you can end in 8th place just 20 seconds before the race ends despite being in 1st all of it

I used to play this all the time with my bros and we actually started developing neat little "strategies" while playing with items in frantic.
Things like braking to end up second before blue shell gets you, stalling to be 5th or so to blast with items to 1st in 3rd lap, things like that.
It was plenty of fun.

Either Super Circuit or Super Mario Kart. While SMK is a important game for getting the franchise started, I never really cared for it even back in the 90s.

Super Circuit was just kind of eh, partly because of the GBA's power and partly due to the limited options you had with it.

the only extremly glaring flaw is the AI rubberbanding being the worst in the series and not having a vs mode. The tracks are good, the roster is decent, battle mode is great(except for skyscraper), and the controls are solid

MK8 handles great but I still think MKDS has the best controls.

I havent played DS in ages though so I may just have nastolgia goggles on. My only real complaint with DS is that they allowed snaking online.
