It's the best in the series, albeit a bit more action orientated and streamlined than spoopy like 1. Just don't even bother with 3.
>you will never get to traipse around a derelict ship with pic related
feels really bad
>>
>>386094742
Wrong, 1 is the best, 2 is okay.
>>
>>386094905
That's your opinion and quite frankly I respect it.
>>
>>386094742
I was super skeptical on the second game at first but thoroughly enjoyed it after playing it. The first game is a better horror game but I actually liked 2 more overall. Isaac is more hardened and combat ready which makes sense considering what he dealt with in the first game. I think it still had good set pieces and moments.

The third game on the other hand is hot garbage. Dismemberment doesn't matter in the slightest, all the weapons use the same ammo pool, The story and characters feel ruined, and it's practically not even a horror game. I never once felt a sense of dread, despair, or horror at all in the third title. I will say though the third game does make for a decently fun co-op game and it had neat hallucination moments that complimented co-op well but it's not a good Dead Space title.

I feel the same way. 1 is great but 2 is just an overall better package. The evolution of stasis and kinesis really up the ante.

Shocking accurate, although I did like Aliens for what it was.
>>
>>386094742

its literally an action game with some survival horror elements. DS2 & 3 were a mistake

1 was great.
2 is a must play. The environment and atmosphere is amazing, with fun game play to boot.
3 was a mess. But the item crafting was amazing. That's about all it had if you arnt die hard
>>
>>386095317
I didn't really like 2's more action oriented approach and Isaac talking. That and I liked the Event Horizon scenario of "something fucked up just happened".
I own both fucking movies. Why did they have to kill such a great series with 3?

Nah, DS2 was great.
>>
>>386095526
It was only a matter of time with EA. Such a shame, it was a cool niche with some pretty interesting lore and setting before they made it Call of Duty: Space Planet with microtransactions the main focus.
>>
>>386095557
It had some nice scenery and environments. But the jarring tone changes every other chapter and gimmick bosses really fucked it up.
>>
>>386095418
Literally the only good thing about the third game. Me and a friend were playing, nothing spoopy happening at all because they decided not to add any horror to the game. Suddenly I start seeing weird shit that's out of place and hearing weird sounds. As I'm commenting on it to a friend he's confused and wondering what the fuck I'm talking about. He's starting to get spooped which actually starts to freak me out a little. If the game would have had more horror elements to it in the first place a system like that could have really been amplified and cool.
>>
>>386094548
2 is worth playing just for the gameplay tweaks. Alot less clunky.

>>386095665
1 clearly does horror better but the gameplay is far less varied and kind of plods along. I'd agree that this adds to the horror elements but I found them both pretty similar in tone the whole way through. The segment back on the Ishimura was maybe the most on edge a game has ever made me, and that sequence with pic related was tense as fuck. Maybe a few too many setpieces, I'd agree.
>>
>>386095526
While I do find your opinion respectable on being more action oriented not being as good, I do think it fits well. Isaac has seen some shit and he is no longer stuck on the Ishimura. He's going to be better prepared this time around and go all out.

Both the action and voice acting made me hate the idea of what the did to the series but after playing it I think they did well with it. They added more action and somehow still made it have a good story and horror elements. It is strange that he suddenly speaks though, maybe he was simply in shock in the first title.
>>
>>386095987
He's an engineer, though. Not a space commando.
>>
>>386095942
I agree completely. The first game was better horror and it really helped amplify the situation of returning to the Ishimura. I'd say they put the most care of their horror elements on the Ishimura in the second game and simply knowing that's where you are can fuck with you.
>>
This is one of the few instances with video games that I'm legit pissed EA destroyed...

There will have to be a soft reboot in the next 5-10 years, just hopefully by a competent team like Visceral without the push to casualize the game.
>>
>>386093929
I'm still very mad that she was never real. I will never forget my experience with this game at all. Chapter 4 gave me panic attacks and chapter 11-12 took me about 50-70 times to beat them. First and best horror game i've ever beaten.
>>
>>386096154
That shit had me completely on edge when I first played it in the dark all alone in my apartment. One of those gaming experiences I wish I could erase from my memory and do over.
>>
>>386096075
He's had a lot of training on the Ishimura. Dude is fucking insane at this point. It's understandable he'd have a desire to not die and try to outfit him self out better. If a man can aim a fucking engineering tool like a crack shot to pinpoint hit fast moving enemies joints, I'm pretty sure he'll be able to handle actual firearms made for combat.

>tfw up until the end of DS2 I thought there was some kind of ancient dichotomy between the Necromorphs and the Red Marker and that they were always opposed to each other like two ancient eldritch beings
>DS3 reveals the Red Marker was always evil and man made
Am I just a fool or did they drop that plot point?
>>
>>386094548
I would honestly say that DS2 is probably one of my favorite games of all time. There's not a single thing that's wrong with it that I can think of at the moment.
>>
>>386096328
Fucking this, so much.

Dead Space- Amazing Atmosphere and lore building. Sloppy game play.
Dead Space 2. Incredible atmosphere. Story is engaging and tantalizing throughout. Set pieces(school, train, church, drill) are among the best in any genre. Tight gun play.
Dead Space 3. Fun as hell, but dumbed down. No great set pieces(wall climb? On earth I like). Dull environment compared to Sprawl or Ishimura.
>>
>>386094548
its arguably better than the first. loses some of that haunted house vibe the first game had, but gains better combat, more varied enemies, environments, level design, more unpredictable horror aspects (tho not quite as consistent with them), good continuation of the story ect. pretty much everything about it from a raw design stand point is improved and polished.

>>
>>386096691
eh, one minor problem off the top of my head is now they sell it with a bunch of weapon and suit DLC and you get it all for free at the first store. Spoils and potentially ruins the whole pace of the game for first timers, and a purist has to spend some time dumping all that shit in the safe

minor gripe I know
>>
>>386097567
DS2 multiplayer was very L4D like, it was ok
>>
>>386096691

Agreed. While I loved both, DS2 was firing on all cylinders when it came to gameplay and atmosphere.

Additionally, both games made you give a crap about Isaac and his desperate, hopeless slog.

Damn, I wish 3 hadn't killed off this series.

Especially when you move wave of enemies after wave, shit just loose all the scare element because if not black brute and tons of black jumping/crawiling bitches and whatever else could not do you in then what can.

>Brethren Moons are the final forms of necromorphs and they travel across the galaxy reproducing the cycle and consuming civilizations to reproduce.
>Isaac and co. go to Tau Volantis, which is an ice world frozen because the it was the only thing the original alien species could do to stop convergence finishing another moon.
>Unitologists nutjob disable the machine and convergence begins again. You fight and kill a moon.

It sounds silly and plays silly too, but I actually liked Dead Space taking the Marker lore to a near cosmic level.

The argument of Dead Space vs Dead Space 2 is pretty needless. They each serve something slightly different, so liking one over the other is totally reasonable.

Dead Space 3 is where things get fuzzy, and the people who honestly like it more than 1 or 2 are quite questionable.
