I'm 31 and started playing video games in 1990 on my older brother's NES though.

N64 didn't have anything I wanted until Paper Mario came out, but by that point the system was dying and I just played it on my cousin's N64.

The WiiU. Horribly under powered hardware, and half baked gimmick. I love Mario Kart 8 and 3D World but everything else is trash. Especially Animal Crossing AF. What a slap in the fucking face.

It all started with Mario Galaxy though. It's so slow, steamlined and boring. Even Nintendo themselves say it was casual garbage. Super Mario Sunshine is the best. I'm also disappointed in the Wii itself for being casual garbage but it's a nice emulation box. The Wii really fucking killed Nintendo.

Around 2013-ish. That's when they began rolling out all types of modern day bullshit practices like EA, Bethesda, and Ubisoft.

- When they started going after content creators on YouTube, forcing them to join an umbrella network in order to do use Nintendo content.

- They began pumping out sub par games on the 3DS, being Yoshi's New Island, Link Between Worlds, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Marty Party: Island Tour, and so forth.

- Ruined The Paper Mario franchise forever.


- Nintendo made Pokemon for casuals with X & Y and even more so in Sun/Moon.

- Amiibos. Need I say more? They're shittier than actual DLC, because they're so damn hard to obtain if you're a collector and Nintendo won't make enough of these to satisfy the market. At least with regular DLC/ Map packs I know it's not going anywhere. Plus the value for them is hit or miss, that usually being crappy costumes across some games, or even snatched content that they decided to attach with the toy.

- Announcing season passes and upcoming DLC for games that aren't even out yet. I honestly believe that Mario Golf: World Tour is the cause for every shitty decision Nintendo has made concerning DLC now. It's disheartening to say the least to see Nintendo fall into the conventions of every other developer nowadays.

- The Nintendo Switch and all the problems that it comes with it. Plastic screen, no Ethernet port, no internet browser, paid online, cell phone app bullshit in order to use a headset, no virtual console five months deep, and so on. I can keep bitching about the fact that the bastards wanna charge you $30 fucking dollars for a USB port to charge your joy cons, or that they put the charging cable underneath the Switch instead of on top like their DS handhelds. Call it nit picking, but the Nintendo Switch is perhaps the most unappealing console I've seen since the PS4 Pro.

There's a fuck ton more I could complain about, but these are my thoughts as to why Nintendo isn't my number one anymore.

It was Nintendo finally taking a full step after those half steps with the circle pad pro, and Amiibo reader. It's funny how they just now decided to discontinue the regular size New 3DS in favor of the XL version. It's still a revision I do enjoy more than the regular 3DS, but so far it's been painfully underutilized.

Simplification of the Mario universe and mishandling of one of the simplest, but most enjoyable IPs in gaming. Seriously--it hasn't come out yet, but the fact that Wario, Luigi, Yoshi, DK, Daisy, and Waluigi will be absent from Mario Odyssey, even as just small cameos, is upsetting as fuck.

Huh? The GBA, as a follow up to the original GB and GBC, is fucking legendary. A 100X stronger library that's stood the test of time way better than most of the original GameBoy's library. GameCube was pretty garbage though, way too many droughts.
