The game is about a bunch of young adults who all have shitty things happening in their lives that prevent them from truly being happy while a cult of old people kidnap younger people from the town they live in and kill them because they believe killing people who "won't be missed" will make the economy better.

What makes the game so liked is the interaction between the characters which makes the game much more relatable to people who go through similar shit with friends/family or whatever. Also music is really good.

Because they didn't know what kind of story they could actually tell with these characters so they threw together something about young adult rebellion and Lovecraftian bullshit right at the end because it's easy.
