Sell your games if you're worried. I can tell you for a fact it's going to happen. A lot of my old CD-R's have rotted away, and most of my old Floppies are dead. You're really fucked if you live in a humid area too.

It's not quite the same thing, but I have music CDs produced in the 80s and none of them have disc rot. It's a real thing but it's super overblown.

You could just use a crack. I've used a cracked version of GA online with a legit account from the base game and It worked fine.

It depends on the quality of the disc in addition to the age. Most Sega CD games from Working Designs have issues with disc rot because Working Designs was cheap as fuck.

I don't know too much about mods. I did get some kind of Dark Spore mod pack working at one point, but I didn't do a playthrough with it. I've mainly just stuck to Base Game + Expansions + Dr Pepper patch and I haven't run in to any issues. I guess there is a risk of getting banned going online with a cracked version though.

Unless you don't know how to properly store your disks they will last at the very least 50y.
You'll probably kill yourself much sooner than that

CD-Rs are SHIT. They are mass produced at a scale beyond commercials discs with almost no quality control.

I have music CDs from the 80s are that are still pristine and still play.

All but my Dreamcast are modded in some way to load games off of a hard drive, flash drive or an SD card. So, no. Not really.
