The game was slowed down in general and heavy characters suffered the most, and not happy with that they go and give Yozakura one of the longest missions in the game, or maye it only felt long due to how slow the game is.
They are still usable, I think Yo and Dai are probably the best heavy characters, but you'll need to level up and get new moves for them to be worth it.

They were much better in SV. If you want an example Yozakura and Katsuragi were great to play, you could dodge fast, you didn't have to commit attacks you didn't think you could fully see through, their specials did enormous damage, and so on. In EV you not only have to charge their main squares to deal any damage, but because of super armor you can't do that and you instead end up getting juggled or knocked out of the attacks, and you have to commit to every attack since they ruined dash canceling. Their specials also generally feel weaker.

Honestly, the worst thing they did with SK2 and EV is give nearly every enemy super armor and then make the bosses completely unfun. Rin was the right way to do bosses in SV since she's an actual challenge, but with EV the challenge is because you're grossly underpowered until you hit around 26-30ish and even if you hit that mark some characters are just utter garbage. Minori went from great to having her range reduced and her damage nerfed, in SV all you needed to do was throw the candy in the pail and hit like four times for your main squares to deal enormous hits with a relatively decent range, but in EV it's a minor buff and you need to be point blank to hit anyone. It's terrible.

With EV you need to retrain yourself how to play, jump + dash or guard + dash is how you cancel now, you have to commit to attacks so what you want to be doing is either attacking twice and immediately jump dashing or slamming the ground like in SK2 and bolting out of there. Once you have enough for your AoE attack you use it and then repeat until you reach the boss at which point you now have to be even more careful since getting hit for a tenth of your health bar is an immediate B rank.

What's the appeal of these games outside of waifubait and fap fuel?

Most of the girls have some good character and stories, the enemy designs are nice, the gameplay is fun though they make some stupid choices here and there, there's a ton of clothes customization, the music is pretty great, and the areas you can fight in are pretty fun to go through. It's mindless fun with cute girls that have a good backstory.

It's not deep or anything, and it's not too serious, it's just fun.

Haruka is objectively the best everyone who thinks otherwise should extinguish themselves immediately

The Yumi hate comes from several things.

This trickles down to Western players as well through more focus on her in the main story, more involvement in other girls' GH storylines, more focus for the physical bonuses and even more prominent display on the covers.

It's not about the structure of defending bases and stuff, the reason people say it's like Dynasty Warriors is because it's about how the movement works, how actually fighting works, how you can string from a light combo into a strong combo for a different attack, how you fight groups of enemies as you run around a semi-open map, how you have a boss to fight that surrounds themselves with enemies, how you can build up to using a special (Or in this case multiple special) attacks, etc. Playing a character in SV or EV and playing a character in a Musou game feels the same despite how the main gameplay objective and structure is different, this should at least be easy to understand.

The difference being Asuka's entire crew loses to pretty much everyone and has to learn bitter truths about everything while Yumi's only really begins to understand around Homura's crew's chapter which was right before the Asuka stuff if I remember right. I can't remember, do they even lose a fight outside of against the Hanzo crew? I'm feeling like they did against Hebijo but I'm not entirely sure.

The point I'm making here is she was allowed the winning blow. She over everyone else was chosen to be the winning team that beat Jasmine despite not really having any real lesson to learn or prove compared to the others.

I don't care either way with the whole Yumi situation, I find her fun to play even though she's not that great in EV, I enjoy her outfit, I like Gessen, but I also understand why people could dislike her especially with how she's overtaking things.
