Great 3D platformer in a dark setting with an amazing atmosphere and mood.

It's a fun enough game but it's not great. The humor is grating (along with the atmosphere and tone in general) and I never cared for the costume gimmick. Also the driving segments were atrocious (but that's not a significant part of the game).

It's not a proper sequel mainly because it completely moves away from the amazing atmosphere and charm of Rayman 2.

As other posters said, 2 wasn't about combat, and Rayman 3 really doesn't have much going more going on in that department : you can curve your fist attacks and that's about it, since the costumes don't change how you approach or execute combat (although shocking enemies to death is enjoyable)

It's a really bad port with lot of graphical/sound glitches and awful performance.
If you haven't played Ray2, don't play the ps2 version, it has a lot of changes.
Go for PC or DC, maybe the n64 version.
