Literally nothing wrong with Unity.

*exits game*

Even worse if it's multiplatform.
I'll NEVER EVER play a console game made with shitty PC tools. If it's made with Unity, it's guaranteed that the game is going to be full of hacks and unplayable multiplayer.

I only play games 100% developed on a real dev kit. If you can't afford one, don't make console games.

Unity is fine now

dissing it or making fun of it is from like 2010 when it was trash. It's fine now

ori and the blind forest, subnautica, etc i'm sure the list goes on.
>>
>made with unity
what do you have to pay unity to use it? is it liek unreal where they take %5-15 percent evrey thousand $USD?

When mongoloids from the internet think they know shit about game development and blame game engines.
>>
>>386037870
I was just about to post this
>people make bad shit with unity!
yeah, people make bad shit with C too, it's still the only important language for any actual important work and will be until x86 is thoroughly dead, in 40 years
>>
>>386035594
>anon who has no knowledge of technology or software criticizes something he doesn't understand
The only thing "wrong" with Unity is its accessibility.
>>
>>386038437
It also has lots of obscure bugs that you won't really notice until you try to do something tricky or unusual. The same can be said for any other engine, though.
>>
>>386035594
I've worked with Unity. Vaguely. I'm just an art guy.

The engineers seemed to like it.
>>
>>386037621
This is some illuminati shit.
>>
>>386038647
It's great fun to be a programmer on because it feels a lot more like modding than proper development. Optimising can be painful, even with the profiler but results tend to be fast and immediate.
>>
>>386038803
Well I mean like, the people I worked with were legit game devs. They worked on shit since... the snes. 64, playstation, ps2, 3ds, but sadly got stuck in mobile dev hell.
>>
Thoughts on the current Humble Bundle? Is that kit worth it?
>>
>>386038936
>They worked on shit since... the snes. 64, playstation, ps2, 3ds, but sadly got stuck in mobile dev hell

i'm now 5 times more depressed than i was before reading this

those poor souls, the ones who never made it, the unsung heroes

the guy who was "staff scenario editor" or something in the credits, and now has to make a game where you pay to buy tokens to make an anime girl dance or something
>>
>>386035594
Grow Home was fun as fuark
>>
>>386038936
I'm not saying they were hacks, but that's what the workflow is like. It's a lot more fun than something like Gamebryo.
>>
>>386037421
Pretty much this, I was stunned when I saw Unity in the credits I was blown away. Proof that it is not the tool it's the one who wields it.
>>
>>386035594
Best engine currently available.

Powers everything from Endless legend to Subnautica.

if you want to make a 2D game it's fine.
I used it for a short amount of time, I was not a huge fan
>>
>>386039289
OK for simple platformers or puzzle games, not much else
>>
I don't know why people care about engines as a consumer.
>>
what the pic related equivalent of game engines
>>
>>386039478
I guess anything that could run on 16 bit console? Top down shooters, adventure games, possibly 2d fighters...

Admittedly, I've never worked on it.

>modular, can be expanded upon (source code available)
>potentially fits any project
>doesn't really unless you know what your doing
>also prepare to actually spend lots of money
>>
>>386039982
Yeah, and the physics are pretty weak. You can make Break Out but too many balls and it starts glitching.
>>
>>386040004
Using more resources than needed is to ambiguous, and you could easily say that absolutely every single game that is not a tech demo does.

.kkireger is a 3D first person shooter that's only 98kb. Who can beat that?

There are good, well running games made with Unity, though, such as Cities: Skylines
>>
>>386040379
>well running games made with Unity
>Cities: Skylines
lmao
literally "runs on my end :)" the post
>>
>>386040501
Skylines is more CPU dependent then GPU if I remember correctly.
If you have a mid tier build with just an i3 you'll stuggle with Skylines

Explain to me why Unity is shit like I'm someone who doesn't know anything about programming or game making in general.

DUDE CAFFEINE

Shitloads of hobbyist/inexperienced/students making games with it that don't care about optimisation making it look like it's a laggy engine when they're calling expensive, unnecessary functions every frame.

FPBP. Sure every engine has pros and cons but Unity and Gamemaker aren't inherently bad platforms to build games on. They just have such a low barrier of entry that it's why you're seeing so many poorly made games running these logos. It's not so much the engine's fault but the inexperienced dev's. All this uninformed hate is dumb as hell.
>>
>>386043315
>They just have such a low barrier of entry that it's why you're seeing so many poorly made games running these logos

Yeah exactly. If anything it's a compliment to the software, since it shows that a bunch of slackers can actually make something resembling a game despite a lack of training. Meanwhile you get games that are actually decent, and some of these devs decline to say what they made the game in.
>>
>>386041117

>>

>even hollow knight a game that looks like PS2 trash runs like shit for some people
It's the devs fault. Little to do with the engine.
>>386041845
It isn't. But it's popular among people who make indie shovelware so people who know nothing about game development on /v/ claim that it is shit.
