I don't think it will. Switch will be lucky to sell past 30 million, which is what the Xbone is current sitting at. The Xbone meanwhile still has some steam left in it with the Scorpio, and the fact that it actually gets 3rd party support.

The Switch will reach Xbox sales, but it will never surpass it. Xbox One X will breathe new life into the Xbox One, Switch can't ever surpass the Xbox with first parties alone.

Handhelds don't have the staying power in the west that they once had. Even in Japan, you can see a decline. But I'm sure we'll still see 20m+ sales from there alone. But in the west, it's a whole different story. The people who once would have been all about a portable gaming console now have phones and tablets that play Minecraft. Only Nintendo fans in the west care about the Switch.

And if you look at the total number of Japanese 3DS sales, you can make a good estimate for how the Switch will perform there as well.
