my first time playing it, just got to whatever the European city is with the train station

it's incredibly long-winded, the story isn't very interesting compared to the previous games, and level design is quite a bit worse

BUT it's pretty well-written, those long movies are comfy and enjoyable to watch. characters have good arcs so far. it has fantastic production values and it feels good to play. almost too well - the shooting is so good that's it's too tempting and easy to just shoot everything. the over-reliance on guns has changed the gameplay for the worse, but at least it makes good sense in the game's world and story.

I like it a lot but I'm digesting it slowly and playing in two-three hour bursts with long breaks in between. It seems that the game was designed to accommodate that play style so it feels good, but it's different from the fucking ride that was MGS3 which I couldn't let go until I finished it.

Far Cry Primal. Yeah was pretty good. Prefer the ones with guns tho. I'll give it a 7/10. Far Cry 4 was also way better because it actually had a good in game map creator and lots of fun maps to play. Sadly the map editor didn't let you use assets from the yeti DLC. So no Custom maps with yetis or anything like that.

Maybe Far Cry 5's custom map creator will feature the enemies and assets from the previous Far Cry games. That'd be really fucking cool.


Also the only reason i'm playing Far Cry Primal is because my PS4 broke yesterday while I was playing Kingdom Hearts Final Mix. Its that common HDMI port permanently breaking WLOD thing. I don't know when I can get it fixed.

BlazBlue Central Fiction.
The mechanics are as tight as they get and it's by far the best game in the series. Story wise the writing is full of crazy and not the good kind, tho I'm really enjoying it. It's not a bad thing to go for a pantsu on head retarded story from time to time.

I'm currently playing it. I knew what I was getting into but I find it's surprisingly boring. I played Banjo-Kazooie for the first time a few months ago and enjoyed that, but this one just doesn't gel as well for me. It's very similar, so similar it's almost a complete copy (I know that's why it was kickstarted but there's still barely any innovation), yet it's more bland. It's not terrible gameplay wise (apart from the god-awful minecart segments), but the only reason I'm still playing it is to finish what I've started.

Castelvania Dracula X Chronicals, basically Rondo of Blood PSP. I'm unsure how I feel about it, largely playing it because it has the OG version of Rondo unlockable and I want an easy way to emulate the game.

The graphics are pretty horrid, and the redesigns are gross, but overall the gameplay seems pretty solid. Unsure how loyal it is with the original but so far it seems pretty enjoyable, though things have a tendency to feel a bit sluggish.

i've "finished" BG:EE an hour ago. my party got anihilated after 3 turns during final fight even after cheat-teleporting them through maze and directly to the temple, so i would avoid spending resources, spells elixirs etc. I watched last cutscene on yt. fuck this type of games where most main story steps are relatively easy and suddenly you have huge difficulty spike on the last few encounters. i have no desire to go several hours back and farm sidequests.

It's a good game but the things that make it unique also make it really dumb.
It's basically like a beat em up game, but instead faux-3D movement with an isometric camera you get 2D platforming movement with actual platforms. The platforming isn't difficult, or risky, but it adds challenge and depth to the combat because of how you have to fight your opponents in progressively harder terrain where they have the advantage. As an example fighting an org who has unblockable attacks with his club is quite easy if you have a lot of room to move because the club is extremely slow. However if you fight him when you have NO room to move you have to sit there blocking to stop his blockable punching attack, and react to him either swinging his club on the ground or in a jump-in attack. This can be difficult because his club outranges your sword and it can be hard to actually get in range to hit him before he hits you. Furthermore if you run forward to hit him from a distance predictively he might just jump instead and unless you use an uppercut he'll slap your ass. This is even harder to do when you and the org are stuck between two spike traps that repeatedly crash down from the ceiling, and unlike you these traps don't actually harm him so you can't use them against him.
The problem with this system is that like a proper faux-3D movement beat em up you often have to fight multiple opponents at once. This is actually pretty reasonable because you have two mage characters backing you up, and you can even switch to one and play as them if you want, but it's extremely difficult to counter enemy mage units. Imagine fighting 3 mage enemies with spears at once. Magic is unblockable. The magic that comes out fast is relatively easy to avoid, you just jump over it with good predictive timing like a fireball in a fighting game, but spells which have a short startup time are a lot more threatening and can be difficult if not impossible to avoid.

Killing Floor 2, yeah. Repetitive, but fun

Even the faster magic can be impossible to avoid if you want to go on the offensive. As an example the dragon pups in korat have 3 attacks. A linear fireball which you can actually duck under if you're relatively close to them, and 2 fire breath attacks, one that goes straight out and one that's slightly angled down. Say there are 2 pups, you're on the ground, and with good timing you predict when one of them is going to use their diagonal breath and you jump in to dodge it and hit them, but then the other one uses their horizontal breath to knock you out of the air. The only way to avoid getting hit in this situation is to not jump forward in the first place and instead move backwards to stall for time and convince them to reposition themselves.
Spells can do all kinds of shit from creating walls of fire, to firing tons of projectiles in a spiral pattern that are almost impossible to dodge. One of the hardest spells to dodge is Chaser, which spawns 4 fireballs at different heights that home in on you. The only way to dodge it is to run backwards to narrow their approach, then jump over them all. This is impossible if you don't have room to move backwards.
Your mage buddies can help a lot because while you're off getting messed up they can be casting spells of their own, but their mana is limited and acquiring mana replenishing items is difficult, and finding mana and health replenishing shrines in dungeons is rare, so most of the time you have to order them to limit their spell use to healing only or none at all to preserve their mana for the more difficult fights. Enemies don't have this limitation because no matter how many you kill there will always be more further ahead.
This means that the most effective strategy is often tediously stepping just outside of the range of attacks or neutral jumping to avoid attacks without actually gaining a chance to attack, but this is only effective at all when you decide to spend mana.
It's fun, play it.

It does have a fair amount of lore if you poke around but a lot of it is text or audio tape related which is a shame. The NPCs do a decent job of explaining how the world works now and everything but if you wanted more info on the history of the current civilization and the height of civilization before the fall, you have to go digging around and get collections, etc. The vantage point audio tapes were my favorite.

Playing Tales of Zestria
I'm about 11 hours in and I'm not sure how long this ride is but I'm liking it so far.

Honestly, my biggest issues are fighting with the camera and sharp control changes from field to combat ( Square to attack in the field, Square guards in combat and Circle attacks, Right stick moves camera in the field but gives commands in combat, camera HAS to be locked on to something in combat so when the only thing to lock on to gets the camera pinned to the wall you have to get out of the corner without being able to see and that fucked me twice during the part where Rose and her stand joins you ), and also the fact that a lot of the abilities are useless: I'm sure I'll eventually find a use for Mcburrito telling me there's a treasure box nearby after I've already begun opening the treasure box, the MC doing the same for monoliths, and the little girl picking up 1 coin every half an hour.

FFXII:ZA and yes I enjoyed it since FFXII is my favorite FF. Starting Prey tonight.

Just beat Dead Space. It was fun as hell, basically RE4 in space. I appreciated that it wasn't too spooky, too, cause I'm a pussy with horror games. Definitely could have been harder though. I think I'll try out that impossible mode when I get a chance.
Also the shitty level 1 suit looks the coolest, I love how simple and shitty it looks.

This is actually my first "Tales of" game, believe it or not. I've been meaning to get into the series for a long time but I just never did.

Just completed the first case and it has the Suda51 touch alright, and I love that weird over the top bullshit that he does.

I have played Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and the GBA game Grunty's Revenge.

You should play Banjo-Tooie. It's similar but different to Kazooie. It's a lot bigger and the jiggies require more effort to complete.
I enjoyed the hell out of Yooka-Laylee, but I will say that Yooka-Laylee is more Banjo-Tooie than Banjo-Kazooie.

Of course it was, people don't play shit for the gameplay anymore. But Walking Dead is super popular and it piggybacked of that series success. LoU lets you roleplay as some zombieland savior with a "deep" storyline, it's like an interactive netflix binge. People don't want gameplay, they want to press a few buttons to make the story go forward. It's not surprising at all that it was successful.

How? The game has well written characters but that's literally it. Everything else is either mediocre or shit and the worst thing is that even though people praise the game for its story, the shitty gameplay takes around 90% of the game. You have to force yourself through like two hours of awful repetitive TPS/stealth sequences just to get five minutes of story development. How exactly is this a good game in your opinion?
