What? I've always hated Vaan. Just about every other character has it better off than he does.

Unless they changed it in the remaster, Vaan actually has the best, or tied for best, stats for basically everything except for attack magic where Ashe is better.

in ALL versions of the game, Vaan has the best stats and the fastest attack animations with ninja swords and katanas, meaning he has the highest damage potential in the game with Genji Armor.

Also, Vaan is integral to the story.
He's the character that connects most with Ashe, and makes her grow the most with their shared desire for revenge, and his eventual overcoming of this, and convincing Ashe to give it up as well.

Also, Penelo is required for the story. Without her, Larsa has no connection to the party.

It makes no fucking difference to the story what character you use in combat. I love Balthier but I almost never use him because he's completely shit at everything. Vaan is objectively the best character in the game statswise. Vaan>Basch>Penelo>Ashe>Fran>Balthier
