Watch some salmon run videos, and read the guide to know how to deal with the bosses (especially pic related).

Other than that, there's not much you can do, you can't learn how to aim with gyro if you don't have the controller yet, you can't find which weapon works best for you, etc.

Just got my hero brush replica and hero shoot replica.
What should I go for next?

The game isn't hard, by level 10 you'll be pretty prepped for ranked if you want it.
Try different weapons, find a type you like. I haven't used the same weapon for longer than like 4 days, I like to try new ones all the time.
Depending on your weapon, you might want to either run solo and ink turf or run around as a pair, covering ground that way. Rollers might like to do that.
The Sting ray is a really bad special so unless you figure out a way to make it useful, avoid weapons with it.
Style over stats all the time.
Booyah the start of every game.
The gyro controls are pretty good, I find using the stick to turn left+right and the gyro for up+down and fine tuning (i.e. following someone when they're strafing) is a good way of using them.

The "weapon to get annoyed at" changes over time, I think the Octobrush was getting some heat for it's ability to kill so quickly. The Aerobrush did too because it's really good at inking turf. You'll find different weapon types are better for different modes, turf war favours high ink coverage and ranked modes favour kill power. Don't pay attention to what other people say about a weapon, just pick ones you have fun with.

Octobrush and Trislosher are currently considered to be overpowered (not really tho, good players can easily overcome their upsides and kill Octobrush or Trislosher users with any other weapons).
Most people bitch about dualies users not getting any kills but I haven't encountered that problem, I consistently score on the top of my team with them.

Each weapon is slightly different.
For example you have few types of dualies - Squelcher Dualies, Splat Dualies, Dapple Dualies, each with slightly different stats. Squelcher has longer range but lower damage per hit also slightly lower rate of fire, Splat Dualies is the middle grount, Dapple has short range but inflicts more damage and allows to dodge faster.
Even within one type there are several versions of the weapon - for example you have regular Splat Dualies and Enperry Splat Dualies - the difference is with secondary skill (Burst Bomb vs Curling Bomb) and special skill (Tenta Missiles vs Inkjet).
That's for dualies, now there are other types of weapons - for example there are 3 kinds of brushes that vary in range, area and fire rate, different sloshers (buckets), rifles, chargers, etc.

again, it all comes down to your personal preference. If you want to be sneaky squid and attack your enemies after emerging from paint pools then Ninja Squid (and Stealth Jump) is something you should look for in gear. If you want to fight openly then Ink Resistance Up, Bomb Resistance Up are great. If you die often then Respawn Punisher / Haunt may be something to punish enemies that kill you.

Generally what I've found works best for me is 1 main Ink Resistance Up (makes you run faster in enemy ink), 1 main Last-Ditch Effort for Turf War / 1 main Ninja Squid for other gamemodes, and 1 main Quick Respawn. Special Power Up and Special Charge Up are also nice, but again - depends on your playstyle and on your specials.
