Hey, /v/. My GameCube, XBox, Playstation 3, Wii U, and Switch have all proven to be great fun, but I want something more. This is why I have decided to save up for the next few months and then invest in a gaming PC!

I'm not too knowledgeable about parts and their compatibilities and whatnot, but I think these parts should work together.

How does this build look?

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
Mobo: ASUS Prime B250M-A LGA1151
RAM: Avant 166B 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM 2133 (PC17000) Desktop Memory
Storage: SanDisk 1TB Ultra II SATA III 2.5" Internal SSD
PSU: Corsair CX Series 650 Watt 80+ Bronze
Case: NZXT S340
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2

Does that seem good? Are there any parts that I'm forgetting? Do I need to go out and buy more fans or a case with water cooling instead?
>>
Ooh! I'm forgetting the mouse and keyboard!
I'll buy crappy ones at first since I'm not much into multiplayer or competitive gaming. I can always invest in better ones later.

1080 is a monster, will crush anything at 1080p and most things at 1440p 144hz.

eh its fine

Trashcan it goes. Get better RAM. 2133mhz is the literal bottom end. Shit brand too.

Eh its fine but could be better.
>PSU
Fine if you're not planning SLI / many expansion cards
>Case
Again an ehh its fine but could be better. NZXT usually has good air flow, some of them suck to be fucking around in though
>CPU cooler
It'll do the job. Again you could definitely do better here. Noctua makes some great air coolers.
>>
>>386007047
the 7700k is only worth it if you're going to be using a high refresh rate monitor, otherwise an r5 1600 is all you need for gaming. Also the cx series is trash, go with rm, hx, or sf if you want corsair. If you're spending $300+ on a cpu you might as well get a better cooler.
>>
>>386007047
why the fuck are you getting a consumer grade motherboard for a 7700k get like a Z170 or Z270 Chipset mobo (whichever is the one for the 7700K) and don't fucking be a cheap fuck. Also there is no point in a 1tb ssd thats a fucking meme. Also get Corsair or Kignston Ram

you dont need 1tb of ssd unless you are actually gonna use it. a 250 gb ssd and 2tb hard drive will do just fine and be much cheaper

They are.
What's wrong with an SSD? Is it the storage space that's stupid?
Not really stupid but way overkill, get one like 250gb ssd for your system and stuff that profits from the higher speed, and an normal hdd for everything else. Your entire system just screams its more expensive so it must be better
>>
>>386007047
get a much smaller ssd for the os and then a normal harddrive for storage/use.
i also sprung for a gtx1080ti with the i7-7700k. its fucking weird being able to max everything and beyond.

I'm definitely sticking with the i7. I want it to be relevant for quite some time.

Anyways, I was told by /g/ that the mobo absolutely sucks ass because it can't OC but it's being paired with an unlocked CPU.
What are some motherboards that are compatible with the i7's turbo technology?
>>
>>386007047
Ignore the Ryzen marketers

If you're just gaming the 7700k is the best CPU for the job

The 1080 is good if you can find it without getting buttfucked in this buttcoin mining craze, don't buy second hand

You don't need a 1TB SSD

The Hyper 212 is garbage for the 7700k, buy a 240mm closed loop cooler from any named brand (they're all the same)

You only buy Ryzen if you're poor and can't afford a hundred bucks more

>If you're just gaming the 7700k is the best CPU for the job
yeah, but that only matters past 60hz. Ryzen 5 gives you 90% of the performance of a 7700k for 2/3 of the price. If he wants to spend $100+ for 10% more performance then by all means, I'm just saying that intel isn't the only option anymore.

Okay, so I've updated it:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-UD3 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z270
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Intel Z170 Platform / Intel X99 Platform Desktop Memory
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical
HDD:Toshiba (DT01ACA100) 1TB Internal Hard Drive
PSU: Corsair TX850M 850W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
Case: NZXT S340
CPU Cooler: LEPA LPWAC240-HF AquaChanger 240 Liquid CPU Cooler 240mm

How is this?
>>
>>386011475
what resolution/refresh rate for monitor?
>>
>>386010813
An i7 shits on Ryzen in single threaded performance. Ryzen has the price/performance advantage when it comes to multithreaded games and video encoding.

Unless the industry collectively decides to stop pushing towards multithread optimization, an i7 in 2017 is going to become outdated faster than a similarly priced Ryzen. I'm an intelfag but it's stupid to shit on Ryzen when it's literally the wakeup call to get Intel to move their ass and stop stagnating with their consumer CPU development

>>
>>386011475
Yeah it would really help if you told us what monitor you planned to use it with.

Just make sure your RAM is compatible with your motherboard, it looks ok though. You definitely don't need a 850W power supply unless you're planning to install a fuckton of expansion cards to your build. It's not even necessary for SLI which I wouldn't recommend to begin with. A 650W PSU is perfectly fine, make sure it's modular if you want to have an easier time with cable management. A closed loop liquid cooler isn't necissary either unless you plan to push the i7 to it's limit. If you're fine with air coolers the Hyper 212 is perfectly fine, don't listen to that other fag.

And growing. There's instructions in DX12 and Vulkan to make use of more cores and threads, and with the R5 chips being popular with gamers more games will support it soon. Keep in mind Ryzen's performance is pretty good already, and when games support more cores you get more FPS and minimum frame times than you would with a 7700k. the i7 will not age age nearly as well

>A meme forced by AMD shills
I mean it's just facts. Being 6 core 12thread it has significant advantages over quad core 8 thread but only in scenarios that can take advantage of that. Streaming is one of those scenarios. If you only care about pure gaming performance and nothing else then it makes more sense to get the i7

>i hate something just because i was told to hate it
Reddit can be retarded, dont get me wrong, but when it comes to smaller communities it is infinitely better than /v/. Building a PC is one of those instances. For fuck sake, people tell him to buy a fucking water cooler for 7700k, only after 3 lists someone finally tells him to get at least 3200 memory and tell him that Ryzen is better than 7700k. Autism incarnate.

3200 memory is useless with Intel so that at least he had right.

It is not, I am at mobile on work so I cant link the Digital Foundry video about new Intel CPUs where they show the difference.

I havent seen g-sync in action but i think its an overpriced gimmick, maybe it helps to smoothen drastic frame rate drops but i dont know.
1440p 144hz looks great though, get it.
