How did Opera end up being a botnet? I was thinking about trying it recently to get away from the Chrome botnet finally, but was surprised to find that out upon research. I thought its whole thing was being minimalist or something but I got a completely wrong picture.

I remember when Opera wasn't a Chrome clone. Fucking Windows 8 causing them to """"remake"""" the browser. They split the mail client/RSS reader from the browser, put it into a separate program, and then removed all the features that made Opera cool with the "promise" of adding them back in the future.

Now it's just Chrome. I'm still gonna keep using Opera though because I'm stubborn and my Chrome is infected where it opens up this fishy search engine tab. I can't make it not do that.

Waterfox is a pretty faithful 64bit fork of standard Firefox.

Palemoon is based on a much older version of Firefox, it's reliable but might be missing a lot of creature comforts you'd expect from modern browsers.

Cyberfox is like a power-user firefox fork with more options than you probably need.

When firefox drops support for most extensions, what alternative will we jump ship to? Is waterfox the best way?

My firefox is slow as dogshit and I've been using chrome for some things because I can't deal with it anymore. What should I do, should I take the plunge on a new browser? I've been using firefox for fucking ever and would rather not but its so fucking slow.

Only things wrong with edge and safari are the lack of webm and the fact google likes to shit up youtube on non-chrome browsers. If those two were fixed there'd be no reason to use anything but those.

Screenshot task manager with both firefox and chrome open, so we can see the comparable RAM usage.
How many tabs?
32/64 bit?

How different is Iridium to Chrome?
I've used Chrome all this time for it's speed and bookmarks, but honestly I've been waiting for FF to add support for Chrome's extensions
If Iridium is the answer to ditching google's bullshit, but keeping what I like about Chrome, then I'll totally switch
>>
Anyone else using Vivaldi? I switched to it recently and it doesn't freeze like every other browser, so that means it's 10/10 so far.
>>
>>386000847
Isn't that what chromium is?
>>
>>386000907
I guess, but isn't that still Google's thing?
Looking into it a bit, Iridium is supposed to be Chromium but with all the botnet crap ripped out
>>
>>385985307
Un-googled chromium.
>>
>>386001050
I dunno, this anon posted an "ungoogled" version
>>385985346

May want to look into it or something, I was thinking about it.

I don't keep a lot of tabs, for this I closed everything except this thread in each browser, 64bit
>>
>>386001253
Or based on my own screenshot apparently 32? Would that be the problem if my OS is 64bit? oops.
>>
>>385984281
I like chrome, I love the idea of a government clerk having to catalogue all of my pornography.
I feel like I'm doing something good for the world.

If you have a 64bit OS it may be worth trying a 64bit version and seeing if you notice any improvements
>>
Ungoogled Chromium or Iridium?
I don't use many tabs and I like using extensions.

My desktop doesn't use hardware acceleration (by choice), which I assume factors into the render test and I assume is hurting my overall score by a lot. It's still lower than yours.

>>
>>386002426
That's a necessity really, I can't browse any non-mainstream site for more than 10 seconds without getting kicked out of the page by some obnoxious ad or the page crashing due to overload.
Then people whine about everyone using adblockers and reducing their revenue,
>>

Firefox + Ublock extension
That's what I use for Android. Also has a block element feature, which is always nice to have.
