Okay I have played very little Dota 2 but why does that guy keep reviving? And how is it balanced in any sense?
>>
>>385971571
Revival ability, then revival item, then revival ability again.
>how is it balanced
The item is a bitch to get and single use.
>>
>>385971420
Holy shit thats funny
>>385971571
Wraith kings ult is a revive. So he dies, gets his ult revive, dies, gets that aegis revive from killing roshan, uses an item that refreshes cooldowns on abilities, dies, and has his ult again, then he used what I assume was the cheese item to fully heal and kill void. It's really fucking hard to get to the point where this is possible, so it's not exactly unbalanced.
>>
>>385971420
should have gone manta diffusal
>>
>>385972441
Ok thanks, I always see Webms like that and it makes the game seem unplayable but I guess if the game was an hour long then it makes sense to be so strong.
>>
>muh cherrypicked footage
This isn't a fighting game, individual fights aren't supposed to look impressive and they only make sense in the context of the match as a whole
>>
>>385970836
I have absolutely 0 idea how people think this is a more entertaining spectator sport than Starcraft: Broodwar
>>
>>385972813
Not only that, the revive item he used can only be picked up every fifteen minutes or so, and there's only one on the map after a fight in a location that is basically always warded.
>>
>>385971167
They’re mostly HUEHUES I think

Yes, /v/ has attracted you.
>>
>>385973920
But the skill is balanced.
The skill is 160 seconds cooldown and it consomes1/3 of you total mana.
There are many ways to counter WK, and that guy didn't use one single of them and tried to kill him alone.
>>
>>385974976
Except it objectively isn't because either party could have rolled better and won. The perfect coin flip is always fair.
>>
RNG is what keeps people on the edge of their seats. It's not as exciting when you know the outcome before it happens.

RNG undermines ANY idea of skill. Critical hits are the worst kind as you can't even react to them post-generation. Something like tetris at least lets you react but with crits the lowest skill player in the world could beat the highest skill player in the world purely from chance.

It can be fun but don't pretend any game that heavily utilises RNG like this is offers valid competition. Anyone who knows anything thinks this is glorified Mario Party esports.

>>
>>385977269
That's not correct. If an enemy hero has a critical item or skill, you know about it. You must factor in his spiky damage in your decision to engage.

The unpredictability factor is extremely crucial in making this decision not a no-brainer. Managing risks and rewards and a crucial part of Dota, and the RNG is great at reinforcing that.

>/v/ now defends RNG in competitive multiplayer games

Nu-/v/ is fucking real. I didn't believe it before but this seals it.

RNG is completely fine in single player RPGs but it has no place in multiplayer games because it can give edges to other players for no reason. How in the hell are you guys defending that?

>>
>>385977470
Not 5d enough to take into account the potential RNG the enemy has.

Its not like he magically gains 20% crit without you knowing, assume it will happen and you wont be caught out.
>>
>>385977453
You're missing the point. Even with 2.5% crit chance, you could crit 50 times in a row, a noob could steamroll a veteran player if they just got lucky and strung never ending crits together.
>>
>>385970836
Man this game is E-motherfuckin Z.
Literally everyone on /v/ can win those millions. We just don't feel like it, because we only play REAL games hah!
>>
>>385977652
Or they can not engage the faggot ? is a 5v5 not a flash fest.
>>
>>385977652
And the veteran can also get a ridiculous string. What's your point?

Over time it'll all average out and the good player will win regardless. If you dispute that fact, you've never played Dota in your life.
>>
>>385977652
thank you, this
>>
>>385977470
RNG is only unbalanced as a concept if there's no way to account for it or make counterplays.
>>
>>385971420

>>
>>385978379

>>
>>385978284
Nah, the other anon is actually right. I know where you're coming from but he's right in that it evens out. Dota isn't really a game with one shat kills.
Look at CSGO to see where RNG is real problem.
>>
Why does /v/ shits on dota and csgo in every thread? Fun, popular, competitive games. Everything a man needs

Is it because they are party based? Fightan doesn't seem to get that much hate
>>
>>385978469
We didn't play
>>
>>385977648
>>385977856
RNG exists in games that use more antiquated mediums, like tabletop wargames, in order to increase the game's complexity without burdenning the players with even more rules, it's a compromisse solution, this is not necessary in electronic games because the basic gameplay mechanics can be more complex as most crunch is done by the computer.

Dota 2 is becoming more and more cancerous with only big money and pretentious professional esportz bullshit in ints goals. I want to watch nerds play video games and hear some banter. I feel you, rubber band ruined the game and you can't talk about it because "lul at least it's not as bad as when it was first impemented hohohaha am I rite?" I miss being able to convert my early advantage into risky early uphill pushes instead of "ok we have to get Rosh because they have shrines and if one of us dies 10 minutes of gameplay will be undone"
>>
>>385978587
>Why does /v/ shits on dota
it's a game where the community likes to talk about how much of an amazing e-sport it is and how balanced it is despite getting a major balance patch on average more than once a month for this entire year alone.
How the fuck people can say on a long term basis that this game is balanced when it isn't even fucking left long enough between patches to get a decent sample size goes beyond me.

Also it's a shame how little the MOBA genre has varied itself as a whole, LoL came out ~8 years ago, Dota even longer and Dota2
5 years ago and look at the amount of variety other MOBA games have in comparison to what advancements 5-8 years of platformers, RPGs, FPSs, fighting games etc. have had in them.
>>
>>385979139
Not if the game is complex enough, also incomplete information, players having to make estimates/guesses and acting according to these will result in a lot of variation.
>>
>>385979203
see
>>385978648
>>
>>385979307
Maybe you should use that advantage to get pickoffs/aegis/etc before pushing high ground to minimize risk.
>>
>>385979229
Yes that¨s bad. Do you remember Magnussen vs. Karjakin? Like all the traditionally timed games were draws. Exciting shit indeed.
>>
>>385979342

its almost like you did only read half of his post
>>
>>385979461
Yeah man sure no problem.
>>
>>385979578
>>385979604
If you have so much of an advantage that the enemy team can't leave their base, there isn't an excuse for you throwing the game when you control the whole map.
>>
>>385979342
Its balanced in that hero variety is at an all time high, hell VP won the Summit with almost 0 duplicate picks
>>
>>385979704
yeah man for sure good post
>>
>>385979715
Actually the game is so unbalanced that "it is balanced because everything CAN/MIGHT work".
>>
>>385979461
That's the point, the risk is artificially inflated by a retarded system designed to force the winning team to play defensively. The game slows to a crawl as soon as all t2s are down unless you have an absurd advantage because attempting to push t3s without aegis is "throwing the game" now.
>>
>>385979342
Dota is not a stable game like Starcraft. At this point the community expects balance to change over time forever.
>>
hey what are some recent retard moments has that weeaboo eternalenvy done in a the last couple years?

How have RPGs, FPSs and fighting games advanced in the last years?
>>
>>385979125
Only accurate post so far
>>
>>385979840
That's a good thing. 5man deathballing down mid was not fun.

By making base harder to push you open up postional plays on the map for the losing team.
>>
>>385979840
Or you can get a pickoff or two before pushing.
>>
>>385970836
Why does everything that happens in DotA seem like it's happening in slow motion? It's like the gameplay speed is set to 50% or something.
>>
>>385979840
>waah i can't do stupid shit and not get punished anymore
>>
>>385979995
How do you get a pickoff when the enemy is sitting in their base doing nothing but pushing the creeps away while adjacent to multiple healing structures preventing a dive? You don't, you're forced to back off into the fog and hope they come out while you farm their jungle or do Rosh.
>>
>>385980098
it speeds up based on stats and they're both level one
compare to void (the purple guy) in this >>385971420
>>
>>385980183
If they've surrendered the map like that you're going to outfarm them massively and the longer they stay passive the further ahead you'll get.
>>
>>385980248
*both low level
>>
>>385970836
WHITE BOYS BTFO. BASED GOOKS
>>
>>385980183
If they're corralled into their base then you can farm the entire map while they're getting fuckall, also you can split push with one hero while your team slow seiges, or you can pick initiators that can pull people out of base. There's more than enough counter play to people turtling in their base.
>>
>>385977652
most abilities are pseudo rng anyways meaning the chance to proc a % skill will go up with each miss. Still like some other anon said it will even out in the end. I'm pretty tired of people posting webms of shit like phantom assassin dodging 5 attacks in a row. She has a fucking 50% chance to dodge, it's bound to happen sometime.
>>
>>385980251
That's the point I'm making, I know what to do in the new system it's just slow and boring and does nothing except to artificially prolong games. Instead of the gameflow being constant and ending with a big push uphill into the enemy base, we have this weird garbage where we have to slowly starve out the enemy for fear of losing everything we've built up to a single death.
>>
>>385980412
I bet you want games to last 15 minutes where you just rush objectives.
>>
>>385980412
First of all you're never going to lose more than a thousand gold to a death, and that's an extreme case with a long streak and a big networth lead.

If your lead is 1000 gold, it's not a very large lead. The game in this case isn't close to over.
>>
>>385980363
not him but that makes the game really boring. and yea sure "winning is more important stop caring about fun". but like when I play with some of my friends in a stack SO OFTEN we lose all the lanes and get all outer towers destroyed in 20 mins, then we just sit in base, at 40 min they maybe break one of our rax, at 60+ they have nearly megas, but more than 50% of the time we still win because while my friends arent very good at the video game we can still communicate better than 3rd worlders. So as you can see the majority of the game just becomes "lets sit in the base waiting for a fight lol". If the enemies free farm for 10 minutes you can just get all that gold back in one fight.
>>
>>385980503
No, I want a stomp to take 20 minutes and a close game to take 40-60. Instead everything takes 40-60 no matter what and those games that should be a stomp end up drawn out and painful ordeals for both teams; one is getting stomped and one has to do a bunch of boring objective bullshit around the map before they can fight a team they've already beaten.

Honestly the new meta favours early game too much. I've seen so many teams getting steamrolled and the new camp stacking makes your hero snowball fast as fuck. Sitting in your base doing nothing until you win is barely a legit strategy anywhere else but 2k sniper/techies games that reach 70min.

Its not like someone would just record uninteresting, typical gameplay. Most funny/impressive dota webms are unlikely to happen most often. Back when that webm was made all the void player would have had to do is buy diffusal blade to drain his mana and prevent revive but he didn't. Nowadays the talent system allows wraith kind to revive at no mana cost but it requires level 25 (max)

Alright this argument has gone on long enough everyone. Time to settle it once and for all, this is the final decisive moment that will forever decide who's right.

We'll flip a coin. Heads, RNG is dumb, has no place in competitive games and anyone who defends it is a certified autist. Tails, RNG is fun and cool and the ultimate test of skill.

Alright I'm flipping. Oh it's heads, well i guess that's that, argument over, I win. At least it was really fun and exciting not knowing the outcome until after it randomly happened right? Should have just played around the chance that the RNG would favor me, guess you just werent good enough to adapt. Better luck next time, oh I meant better "skill" next time.

>a noob could steamroll a veteran player if they just got lucky and strung never ending crits together.

the games pseudorandom number generation is coded to avoid exactly this scenario.
it really isnt anywhere close to a big deal - you take into account the possibility of good RNG, you take into account the possibility of bad RNG, you weigh them against each other, and then decide how to proceed.

RNG elements like crit literally just boil down to your damage output being a little erratic and unpredictable. bash simply means that you cant 100% rely on having full mobility and freedom of action.

I played a lot of TF2 and I loved crits and random spread for shotguns. I also loved the idea of Highlander matches and having only one of each class on a team, but with no crits and no shotgun spread making Scouts and Engineers disgustingly overpowered. Not to mention that crits and spread isn't allowed but scripts are not only okay they're needed to keep up with the other scripters.

Fuck competitive anything. People just make up whatever the fuck rules they want and ignore what the game was supposed to be about. Fun.

The coin in my hand of course. You've lost every toss so far, and according to your own points that was your own fault because you should have adapted or played around the possibility that I would win.

No, its all about the overall strategy, intel gathering and other things. The lack of skill requirement ensure the genre survives unlike RTS which required far too much skill to climb the ranks. Everyone just stop and think for a second.

According to dotard logic, smash with items on is the most skill based and competitive fighter in the world.
Mario kart is the most skill based and competitive racing game in the world.
Hearthstone is the most skill based and competitive card game in the world.
And mario party is the most skill based and competitive anything in the world.

Let these simple facts set in before you take anything they say seriously.
>>
>>385985454
Not exactly. Random occurrence just increases the sample size of possible events one needs to react to. If done well, random events require agile thinking to work through, and the player that thinks faster and plans better will be able to prevail over ones who don't.

If done poorly, random events can irreversibly determine the game outcome by providing too heavy of advantage for one team. When this happens, a better player/team can't work their way out of them, no matter how much they outskill the enemy team.

DotA is the best personality test in the history of video games. Most team mates will stomp their feet as soon as something bad happens on their team. These are people you avoid. About 10% of them will actually shrug off other players mistakes and notice the times when they went above and beyond, and those are the guys you add to your friends list to play with again.

If I could find some test as accurate as DotA about how well someone handles stress in the workplace, I'd never have problems hiring people again.

The problem here is actually a clash of linguistics, not of values.

What dota players enjoy is professional gambling. It's quite similar to the word "gaming" but it's very different. Professional gaming is supposed to be a pure contest of skill between 2 players or teams of players, no silly random events happening to suddenly screw over one side or help the other, that would obviously compromise the skill contest.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying watching gambling or anything. Like if you enjoy watching mario kart because you think it's funny when the person with the best actual racing skill loses because they randomly get hit by 5 blue shells in a row that's fine, just move out of the way when the grown ups want to watch a real skill based contest.
