Is LOTR Online worth starting now?
I understand the community is still pretty strong and mature but is there much for a newcomer to enjoy?

The steam numbers aren't everyone. A large amount of people play on standalone launcher from my understanding. Most old school players avoid steam.

Fair play i didn't realise it had a standalone client but looking at the player base with what should arguably by the pinnacle in the story of a Lord of the Rings based game it doesn't bode well either way especially since we're currently sitting on peak time. I'd hardly say the game is 'going strong' more like 'made it to the end'.

It's a dead game with a very small but devoted playerbase. I enjoyed my time with it but it's very much p2w. It'll be put out of its misery in a couple years tops.

All MMOs are only grindy when it comes to gearing for end game aren't they? I mean you can ignore any sense of a grind if you don't focus on end-game but the grind is there while you level or else you'll have to go back and do it no?

I mean while leveling you've got;
>Class Traits
>Slayer Deeds for Virtue Traits
>Reputation to achieve Kindred Rankings
>Crafting Tiers to level while progressing

I mean that shit does stalk up and while you can do it an end game, the grind is there. And that's without touching end game legendaries, essences etc from what i recall.
