Why is /v/ the only board that cares about piracy?
>>
Well g has retards that equate blocking ad's to theft
>>
/v/ is one the more heavier traffic boards and as such is home to many offsite users who love to stir up shit

/v/ cares now? i literally got my bitgamer invite from /v/ back in the day.
>>
>>385957132
/v/ is infected with outside filth. Never would you see the blatant attacks on piracy few years back. There would be one or two moralfags, sure. But not the levels we see now
>>
>>385957132
/v/ is the second-most popular board on 4chan, therefore we receive the second-most highest amount of literal underageb& who will argue about literally anything ad nauseum

>>385957132
I blame Nintenbros and underageb&.
>>
>>385957216
if piracy is theft then so is blocking ads

you're ignoring the cost of a service and accessing it anyway
>>
Either moralfags or jealous people who get mad when you enjoy something you didn't pay for while they did. Most people who complain are underageb& tho.
Reminder that piracy isn't theft.
>>

See despite videogames being the highest grossing industry, they are somehow actually just scraping by and are borderline charity cases, thats why they charge 15 dollars per DLC.
>>
I think it's just a meme.
I mean if you don't pirate how do you know you like the game before purchasing? Are you just going to not play games? Or buy then discover you don't like it and have this library filled with games you never play when that money could've gone to supporting game devs you like?

If you're a real gamer you pirate then honestly purchase if you enjoy it. It is a necessary filter on all these scam unfinished games selling piecemeal DLC/microtransactions for a complete title.

Gookmoot, Moderators, Janitors and Anons alike treat this board like shit while the rest of us try to wade through the bullshit. No one cares more than you do, right now. Just report, sage and hide.

Also, I announce my reports since doing so seems to work as they ban me as well as the shitposters so carry on.

Make sure you report as illegal activities as well.
>>
>>385957132
>I don't play games period.

What now?
>>
>>385957132
Because priacy has created dlc, locked online, full cost alphas and monthly fees for online.

Basically everything wrong with the industry is company's trying to compensate for illegal downloads.

Please enlighten me on how you think monthly online fees and DLC are a result of piracy other than some bullshit blanket statement
>>
>>385957132
It's because pirates on /v/ attempt complicated mental gymnastics to make pirating sound moral, rather than just admitting it's stealing and moving on.
>>
>>385959742
no it didn't, these things came normally because people let companies and dev studios do it, the most effective way of killing most of piracy is having a decent online service and doing games that do not suck ass.
>>
>>385960448
All the other boards has this sort of thing but don't have the level of shills that /v/ has

>believes the video game industry works the same as other media
I was unaware vidya could make money via syndication, radio or live performances.
There's also the part where vidya costs at least 100x more to make than music and is nowhere nearnas profitable as cinema.
>>
I AM SILLY!
>>
>>385957472
It isn't. You're choosing what to accept from someone.
>>385957614
The cost of the service is being sold as a commodity.
If piracy can be equated with theft by idiots then ads on a website can be equated with slavery.
>>
>>385957132
Movies make all their money from ticket sales. Releasing the DVD is more of a novelty item that racks them some extra money, but it's not where they make all their money from. /tv/ still goes to the movies to see some of the bigger titles because decent pirated copies don't come out until the DVD is released.

The music industry makes its money in a large number of ways: ad revenue, itunes, song deals in media, radio, etc. but /mu/ is full of a bunch of fucking hipster cucks who don't even listen to the music that makes all the money in the industry, and instead work on their sound cloud shit and try to shill their favorite undercover crap.

Actual comic fans are already a dying breed, and the industry itself is in decline, but the diehard fans always buy physical.

Nobody gives a shit about anime

Vidya on the other hand is a growing industry that gets its money from people buying the finalized product which directly affects the devs. People who pirate games do so because they are either poor as dirt or they have some sort of self righteousness or bloated ego that convinces them the industry doesn't deserve or need their money, and instead of using their money to support the devs or to show there is any interest in the work they released, they pirate it.
>>
>>385963234
Why do you niggas love sucking corporate dick.
>>
>>385957132
Shills.
/v/ is currently one of the board that has most shills and are allowed to post still, even though the rules say to not viral market, they still do subtly, I firmly believe they pay to viral and that's why mods give it a free pass.
The same goes for faggots unironically defending e-celebs, shitty games and developers.

>Don't mind me, just pirating this ham. Don't worry! I'll buy it if I like it.

Because games actually don't get released in the west in part because of piracy concerns: see Ace Attorney. You aren't going to hear anime or movie studios saying they're going to not release any new anime or movies for the western market because that wouldn't make sense. With games it does actually happen though.
>>
>>385963646

>>
>>385957132
/v/ is the only board where the pirates are obnoxious faggots about it.
>>
>>385965425
Now you see why piratefags are shitty people. Cracking a game may not seem like a big deal, but knowing your way around file structures and encryptions like that already puts you in a better position than like 70% of all IT employees. Instead of sitting in a basement pirating weebshit VNs these people could get actual jobs and afford to pay for the things they like.

But, no, /v/ will actually make life harder for themselves just because their pride makes it seem like they'll come out ahead.
>>
>>385966137
Oh yeah, I just remembered, I too worked for a corporation and was a part of the viral marketing division that specialized in social media outlets such as 4chan, reddit, Facebook and twitter. My boss was always telling us we needed to lie or shitpost against threads or posts that went against EA or Bioware and promote the latest games and services.

You believe me, right?
>>
>>385966849
Piracy also confused the entire issue because it equates it with theft which creates the whole "piracy isn't theft" obfuscating argument to try and hide the issues. File sharing is still illegal, and arguably morally wrong, but it is no way theft.

I think it's a generally shit thing to do because you are depriving the content creator compensation for use of their product. You are paying for a product they spent time/effort making. This is generally easy to sort of dilute when you look at large companies, telling oneself that you don't matter in the grand scheme for sales and that the actual content creators (developers and what not) are salaried and not payed by units sold.

It becomes more difficult to create this cognitive dissonance when you are pirating the works of independents, be them musicians, game devs, film makers, or otherwise. When you reduce the company down to one or a handful of individuals you no longer can put a wall between those who you get the product from and those who you are denying their livelihood.
>>
>>385967328
Given how much of a cocksucking faggot you're being, it's very likely.
>>
I adore when people make these threads. Because every single time its nine out of ten posts shitting on people that are against piracy, yet pirates act like they are the victims.

If ads are a majority if revenue for a creator of content you are literally doing the exact same as what what a pirate does to a publisher the only difference is one makes you pay for the premium experience of no ads (YouTube Red wikipedias donation etc) by using ad block you have accessed a paid for feature one you technically don't deserve. while the other opts to make you pay up front for content that does not have a limited supply rather it is infinite and in a sense of value theory worthless as diamonds are worth more than dirt I can copy a game or video a hundred times so both of these things technically are worthless and only have value a company offers and we as consumers choose to give them currency to encourage more of this worthless shit or to reject that price and see the value change ex. Battleborn. If this wasn't the case we'd have no video game developers or you tubers/film directors only contractors farmer electricians etc. You blocking ads is just as influencal in making someone quit making content just as much as pirating is to a developer. If more people block ads then not is just the same as if more people pirate a game then not.
Tldr piracy is the same as blocking ads it takes money out of the creators pocket and if it becomes to much they quit making shit. That said pirate and block as many ads as you want as you should have the freedom to make the choice to share worthless shit and you can fund it if you genuinely want more vote with your wallet faggot not your GameSpot reviews.

You mean the /v/ermin crossboarders gloating about how they torrented Windows and Photoshop using their backdoored torrent client to convert between image formats, resizing images and how they now can add all caps text with white Impact with black outline on images?
Even when lesser software could be used for the same purpose and they all go "muh industry grade software".
>>
>>385957132
cuz vidya is expensive, and most of the revenue (as well as the ability to speak with your wallet) is from the game's sales.
>>
>>385972195
the question was posed as asking why you or someone else would defend the video game industry and their shitty business practices as a whole
the amount of day 1 patches, online only distribution, dlc, and other dogshit that is now the norm is hardly acceptable or defensible
>>
>>385957405

I don't think it's all ironic.
As the console wars became ever more polarized as the average newfag IQ went down, console fans rely more and more on shouting "PIRACY" to try to get a cheap last word on PC mustards, ignoring the rampant piracy on wii and 3ds. The "people" who do this are completely serious half the time.

Movies make a lot of their money from theater releases.
Music has their concerts
TV, Animu, and Cartoons have DVD, Toys, Merchandise, and Ad revenue.
Vidya usually only has it's own sales to prop it self up unless it becomes a success or has a huge marketing campaign.

I got nothing for stuff like programs and Operating Systems.I don't really care either way.
