what did you expect? I remember when saints row came out in 2006 for the 360 and it was still being compared to this.
>>
Do we have to? I mean, it's something everybody agrees on anyway.
>>
I mean, was it? The graphics certainly aren't very good.
>>

I want to murder you dead until you're dead.
>>
One of the greatest games ever made. Leaving Los Santos and chilling out in the countryside for the first time was so good. Mindblowing amount of content for a PS2 era game.
>>
technically it wasn't any more impressive than GTA 3.

But, the amount of features they learned, and were able to add to the game was pretty impressive in comparison to their original release with that engine.

RPG elements, car customization, player customization, size of the map, the Pos/Neg dialogue responses, all the interior buildings.

There's no way a game could ever replicate the size of San Andreas, and play fluidly without a patch the way it did on release anymore.
>>
SA is easily one of the best open world games ever made.

Another one is Bully.
>>
>>385956185
This. getting Kicked out of LS was the game changer. It became less a GTA, more and Adventure. Completely lost and out of your element. I hoped GTAV could replicate that sense of immersion, but it failed.

I've gone back to play San Andreas a few times since I first played it as a kid, and apart from the graphics and clunky aiming it still holds up amazingly well.
>>
>>385956185
the fucking countryside fucking sucked, specially after the gang wars part which was entertaining as fuck
san fierro was meh
the only good thing about las venturas was savescumming the roulette and making mad dosh
there's nothing like los santos and you know it

Considering it's only 4 years older than GTA 4, I think the graphics and driving physics suck ass.

First time I got to SF it was the story mission after Burning Truths weed. I took the back roads, through the countryside and up and over Bunker Hill, coming down the hillside into the city as the sun rose. It's unforgettable.

Hahahahahahagahahaha consoled
>>
>>385957459
Graphics, driving physics, framerate dependent physics (60 fps causes weird shit to happen) are weaknesses of the game IMO. That said I do think it's a great game, but I don't agree with people who say it holds up well. I think GTA 4 on the other hand really holds up when it comes to graphics and physics!
>>

replayed Bully 5 months ago. It really doesn't have much to offer. The game is too easy and constantly tells you what to do. Lessons end too early if you go often and after that it's just a l shallow GTA clone. Lots of side shit to do but any GTA completely shits on it. The game has charm and atmosphere but it unfortunately doesn't really go beyond that. A remake or a sequel would be great though. Just improve the combat and give it more depth/content and you'll get a fucking awesome game. Not talking about technical achievements, I was disappointed because I had good memories of the game.
>>
>>385957932
It was only bicycles in my version, and only when sprinting on it instead of riding it normally by holding down W.

>>
Why did they make GTAVs map so shit? SA actually feels like an adventure when you're going to new areas on the map and shit but V feels like you just have one city that you do everything in along with a road that goes around empty mountains and desert.
>>
>>385958005

This trailer sold a million PS2's.

If you didn't see it at the time, you'll never understand just how fucking hype it made people. It confirmed o much that had only been a wish beforehand. Car modding, a desert, a forest, planes, trains etc.
It just opened up the world.
>>
>>385958031
Played it for the first time the other week (bought the Scholarship Edition during the summer sale) and I was more than impressed. I honestly can't think of too many games with better executed "open worlds". Bully's is fairly small, but detailed as fuck. All those different NPC routines alone are incredible. In this regard, the game really does take a huge shit on most recent open world games (with only a handful of exceptions).
>>
>>385957056
i agree. It kicked us out way too soon to the gang wars, and lost some of its momentum. LS still ends up feeling like home after you come back though. It established itself as the hub city
>>
>>385958005
Graphically impressive ain't the same as Technically impressive. San Andreas looked very good for its scale back in the day.
I would say the same about GTA V on 360 and PS3, it's a feat how that game looks on those consoles for its scale and how old those machines are.
>>
>>385959082
The GTAV version of the trailer was good too but missing something.

Fucking neo-gamers. Graphics are more important than gameplay.

MGS3 is also a different game. Seriously why is everyone so obtuse today? it's like you are pretending that both games are of the same scale and therefore the fidelity of MGS3 could be applied to SA, the development time is probably different too.

(You)

Replayed the game tons of times over the years, last time I did it was a couple months ago. It's still great.
>>
>>385959082

I remember seeing this on TV. I'd pretty much stopped reading gaming mags or forums at that point, I had no idea this game was coming out so it completely took me by surprise.

Imagine you wake up tomorrow morning and there's a trailer out for GTA VI and someone you had no fucking idea it was even in development. It was surreal, like I'd been in a coma.
I remember when I got the game and fired it up and sat there for like the first 2 minutes thinking 'holy shit this looks like shit, is this really happening? Is this really the game?' and then within 10 minutes I was totally engrossed in San Andreas and stayed that way for about 3 days straight until I finished it.

What a game.
