Is sports a real genre? I guess many of them have some similarities, but for example Fifa is really just an RTS, and Football Manager is Grand Strategy. And different sports games may have very different mechanics and little in common

I always distinguish it and games like it as being "more like DMC" or "more like DW" etc. when I have to distinguish what type of action game it is. If I had to pick a term, I would choose stylish action

Platformers and shmups are near and dear to my heart
I used to be super into turnbased RPGs as a kid, but now I can't stand how unengaging the typical RPG's combat is. If the combat is more interactive than "press a a bunch to win" it might be good.
