I mean I understand people ARE upset about Ryo; but having not played NonEnglish Digimon games I still can't come to understand HOW they are. His introduction in Tamers seemed to follow every beat that 'joining the main cast' sequence happens in the general mode of serials. The show introduced a dozen other umm... tamers and as presented he was clearly the only one with any competence at all outside of the trio. Despite Kenta getting a goddamn marineangemon.

Opinions vary, but I'm not the hugest fan of it because I really don't like the ass pull explanations of why the old kids can't come back and the digimon can't naturally evolve at first. It's all so very artificial feeling, they blatantly nerfed the older kids just so the new guys could take over.
The epilogue also sucks and the overall plot is messy and just jumps around.

There's also the Japanese-only Digimon Adventure PSP game that is basically a retelling of the first season that has evolution that works like the anime, but I don't think there was ever a translation patch for it.
