Because while it's possibly the weakest mainline Metal Gear game, it marked the turning point for the PS3. Before MGS4, PS3 didn't have jack shit. After, the PS3 started getting more and more good and memorable exclusives.

I get that for most of its time It's basically a moviegame but the parts with gameplay have really good gameplay with a lot of stealth oriented options, if only the level design in the later parts of the game was better

People already familiar with the series know what a total disaster it was. Newcomers had no basis for comparison.

he has a boner for big boss, probably disliked solid's simple charatcer, which boiled down to completing the mission, and probably has a dislike of hayter for being the voice and character of solid snake, which makes it almost instantly identifiable as the mgs seeries, rather than kojima. I believe Kojima to be a egotist maniac

I was an MGS vet and I kinda liked it. I enjoyed the first two acts, but the game quickly ran down into the ground. The story on the other hand was a clusterfuck, yeah.

Average playtime for me is about 4-5 hours. My buggest gripe is that almost every part of the game is a one and done section, feels super on rails compared to the other games where exploring and backtracking were encouraged to open up new rooms/paths. It works for the shadow moses section as it is pretty light on combat till the end and narritive heavy but the rest of the game feels so hollow and under used.

That's probably mine too. I know they probably wanted to do a lot of different locales but it makes each area feel less dynamic. If they focused on them a little more it definitely would have been better.

I find it kind of funny that Phantom Pain had the complete opposite problem. Kojima needs to learn middle ground.

I think Camp Omega was a pretty good middle ground. It was open enough, and it had plenty of opportunity to backtrack and had secrets like the prisoner that was being executed.

I honestly expected MGS5 to be like that. More tightly focused but open areas.

The Kaz rescue infiltration and OKB Zero were pretty good IMO shame the rest of the game couldn't compete.
