It's like 30 bux to unlock all the characters and future characters if you want to pay instead of grinding out the gold to buy them.
Cosmetics are bought with gold or crystals and you can get a small amount of crystals by logging in every day for a week.
Given enough time and autism I think you can get everything for free, though there is some RNG aspect to it (some skins can't be bought directly and must be obtained through a chest which costs crystals, etc)

There is some, no denying it. The gold grind for unlocking characters was increased recently-however, the grind for essence to create loadout cards was reduced, which makes it easier to customize character skills.

The founder's pack is about 20USD, and unlocks all current and future characters-it goes on sale for about 13.99 now and again.
