I will not opt for 4k for at least 4 gpu generations. Current gpus and cpus are not made for that shit. I mean you can't even max out the newest Deus EX at 1080p with 1080Ti sli. Unless you are playing straight console ports without visual improvement forget 4k60fps for newer games. And not everybody is willing to spend enough money for a sli setup anyway, bc there is something like diminishing returns.
I'll gladly play most modern games at max or near max with 1 1070 at 1440p, instead of barely being able to play BF1 in 4k60fps with a sli setup without having to lower the quality. And btw go look for jaggies on
a 1440p plus FXAA on a 27''.

I would also add one of the biggest benefits to 1440p or higher resolutions is the obvious less need for AA. FXAA specifically looks a better better on higher resolutions because it's less blurry. I never use MSAA on 1440p unless its a very old game.

aa does make a difference but at 4k its hard to tell when the game is in motion. i just use fxaa if the game has the option because it doesn't really affect fps and improves image quality beyond just aliasing.

Why would anybody play 4k 60fps.
Its slow 165hz is a must. 1440p manages to dominate that range at a reasonable price value because playing at 1080p 165hz isn't worthwhile for the value and quality.

I plan to get a 1440p with 144hz when I can afford to.

I don't get people who are excited for 4k. Sure i would pick the highest resolution given the option but it is not something that keeps me up at night. It is just going to drag out the upgrade race for 10 more years and i don't think that the improvements are worth it. Besides are devs going to be able to provide assets that make use of the resolution? Big games are ridiculously expensive to make even today and have plenty of low res textures and stuff in them.

I would be perfectly fine with games of the future looking like good looking games today as long as they focused on other aspects. And if games are going to look better then i would much more prefer better water physics, reflections, animations etc etc over higher resolution.
