I maintain that SS killed the momentum brought about by Smash and FE7. It could have been a FE7 mod. The graphics were the same, the cast and story weren't as charming, there were no secrets, and the game was too easy. It had none of the FE7's atmosphere. At the time, I thought that it was a holdover game for the GC games.

They should have done what they did with Awakening and Fates straight out the gates: Treat it like the rising star player that it was always meant to be. It's a sad state of affairs when a 3DS is prettier than two Gamecube titles.

Fire Emblem as a whole is focused on overcoming specific map-based challenges using the resources available to you whereas the gameplay in awakening is just a mindless chore that you put up with so you can pair the characters up.

I honestly don't see how the two of them all comparable at all. Aside from having the basic FE mechanics the two of them are totally different. Awakening is still the worse game though, Geneology is broken because many of the mechanics that eventually became series classics had kinks that needed to be worked out. Awakening doesn't have that excuse. By this point the devs should have been fully capable of making a decently balanced game. Not a perfect one but something that was better than the mess we got. Geneology is a product of it's time, but Awakening is a product of incompetence. I can't recommend Geneology to anyone side from oldfags who like slow clunky games, but I can't recommend broken ass Awakening to anyone at all.

Heroes has actually been kind of fair as far as representation goes. As annoying as it is that only a select few games had characters in at launch, the additions since then are slowly filling in the gaps, even if they are in some unconventional ways (first Genealogy Gen 1 units are Eldigan and Lachesis, first Thracia 776 characters are Reinhardt and Olwen, first Radiant Dawn is Sanaki of all people) Hell Jugdral even happens to have 6 characters in it so far as opposed to Tellius's 5 and Magvel's 2, soon to be 3.

So i've pretty much played every FE game that's been released in the US.
Would I like Genealogy? Is the story as good as everyone says it is?
I already know that the game apparently only has 10 chapters and the main cast gets burned alive around chapter 5 or 6 right? would me knowing that ruin the game for me?

Its 12 chapters actually.
The story and characters are good.
The big thing is that each chapter is several times the size of normal chapters in the other games which makes the low number of them fine as each takes several times longer to beat. In addition their sheer size and that they require you to capture multiple forts in any order allows for more freedom in terms of how you plan each battle.

Geneology isn't bad, but you need to have a taste for clunky old games. Also while the story is hyped don't expect a masterpiece. The 2nd half of the game is more or less like every other FE. Don't go into the game expecting the end all be all FE because it's not. It's just the game that tried something new for it's time with many of the things it brought turning into classic mechanics for the modern games like the weapon triangle.

I'm doing a marathon of all the GBA games. Playing through Blazing Sword right now. Quick question, are supports worth grinding? I hear FE7 is pretty easy over all, so I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time grinding support points at the end of maps.

Alternatively, I rolled a 5* Peri a little while back, she's +atk/-hp. What special should I give her, I've been teetering on giving her Desperation + Reprisal/Iceberg.

This map would be GOAT if there weren't wyvern reinforcements that got to move right after spawning. They effectively turn it into trial and error and force you to go slow which can cause you to not get the divine weapon and good ending.

If it didn't have those instantly moving reinforcements, it would be a top 5 map for the whole series.

I like FE6 but there are too many instances of bullshit reinforcements coming out of nowhere and one-shotting your squishy characters like Roy. Just have them spawn and not move or have them spawn from one part of the map away from everyone.

Chapter 14 is not hard in the slightest. Don't deploy cavaliers. Use your mages to attack. Use your fliers to ferry Roy. Send Rutger southeast with a Lancereaver or Wyrmslayer. Deploy a thief for some extra vision. Use the desert item exploit to get 100% of the items without needing (extra) thieves.

FE6 is certainly a quirky game, but its maps aren't the problem. As you said, shaky hit rates can ruin any run at any given moment. Enemy stats don't fuck around either, so bad luck with growths can make the game much harder than anticipated further into the game. Ultimately, you have to remember that one of the core aspects of Fire Emblem gameplay is risk management. This requires you to constantly assess the situations you are in and plan accordingly. FE6 is no different in this regard and requires more attention on your part than most FE games.

Glade is actually a good character. He joins one chapter before Eda (chapter 13) and has a critical role in that chapter. He has a leadership star which is almost enough to deploy him all by itself, plus his stats are solid so he's a staple unit for outdoor chapters. He also gets some good supports, mostly giving them to useless characters but he gets a massive 20% bonus from Selfina.

Eda is not a good combat unit. Her base stats are low, her PCC is low, even her supports are much worse than Dean. It's not worth even trying to make her into someone that can kill stuff (aside from some pegasus knights, maybe). Her role is a flying transport unit; she can fly behind Dean while holding Linoan as a mobile Dean cheerleading squad, she can rescue/drop units across difficult terrain, she can fly around visiting villages and capturing unarmed units.

The japanese hold FE3 in high regard mostly because they played it upon release and are nostalgic over it.

Nevertheless I actually like FE3. The maps are pretty good and the gameplay is classic fire emblem. That's actually his real characterization. Marth's stoic maturity in Shadow Dragon is actually localization changes. FE3's from the beginning has always been about Marth being too trusting and Naïve, which bites him in the ass as Hardin fucks him over. Since FE12 has a fan translation every character is as it should be.

Gameplay wise, Shadow Dragon is just fine. It basically just takes the SNES game and updates it to GBA standards. Also, save for the prologue chapters, there's barely any fluff in between maps, the games just says "here's your map, your dudes and the enemy, go kick ass."

That that's also the problem. The story didn't get updated, which is a simple boy saves the world affair. That doesn't really give you any motivation to play if for 25+ hours if you don't even get to know your characters or their motivations save for a few lines. Add to the fact that the presentation is so dull and washed out, and you got a long, boring game.

Your mileage my vary, of course, but there may be a reason why this game, as it's sequel almost killed the franchise. It's sad because the Archanea games really deserve better.
