So honestly most of the experiences that i made with early access were bad ones, the system is way too abusable since it has no repercussions for developers that abandon a project or just willingly abuse it to make quick cash... i mean fuck DAYZ is in early access since 3.5 years and still broken af!
The only games that actually made real use of the early access system can be counted on 2 hands and when you compare them to the rather bad examples their ratings are much better, examples i played are "Don't Starve" and "Darkest Dungeon".
But byfar the best example of how early access should be used that i could find is We Happy Few, it got funded over kickstarter and then went into early access, but the system compulsion games uses is very uncommon but amazing and effective at the same time:
The developers have weekly journals and update videos on YT and the whole development process is open, the community decides what gets fixed and included first.
So when the game went into early access the build they released was very raw only including only the main gameplay mechanics, features and some sidequests to test the stuff like ai and conversations in general, this means the game included no story, a provisional interface and inventory and most of the features were missing.
The roadmap states that until version 1.0(full release) which includes the story and the three main characters compulsion will release 3 major content updates that include new features and fix major problems in existing ones, while fixing smaller bugs in hotfixes released inbetween updates and sofar everything went smooth.

Honestly this is the first game where i have to say that im really happy that i went for an early acces title.

>>385922223
>best early access
is that like finding the least smelly shit or what?
>>385922223
>we want to make a great game but cant decide if its good without your help
>so we let the community tell us what to do
>surely that has never backfired and driven away customers before!
The problem is that average customers and avid players who follow patch notes and dev blogs have vastly different ideas of what fun is.
