I think it's the former. I feel more comfortable if I can have enough space to read my opponent but if they decide to stay up close and breathe down my neck, I can't react well.

I actually end up dropping combos because if I catch them at the right time with a launch I freeze up because I'm still in panic mode.

Jin is very difficult, the key is to introduce his command throws into the mix after attacks which place you right next to opponents. Abuse that, down four poke, down back four and mix up those low pokes with hop kicks. Also, abuse the fuck out of ff2 at long range and wdash 2 or hellsweep as your go to punishers. Everything else is defense and knowing when to punish and just stay defensive. Jin plays very similar to dragunov in the sense that you have to be a spammy piece of shit in order to win consistently, but it works wonders.
