It's really not. People wanted DayZ to be PUBG from the beginning.

DayZ was about:
>spawning
>running for 30 minutes real-time to the nearest city/military base
>spending hours on end to get gear
>server hopping and hoping no one killed you
>eventually getting killed by some hacker with speedhacks

It got progressively worse when the team introduced features to prevent loot hoarding. And the game died. Remember how popular it was at the beginning? How people discovered the map and met new people? How stream sniping was so entertaining? It's dead and buried now because a game based on RP interactions and PvP at the same time is bound to fail.

PUBG just made all of this happen a thousand times quicker. And there's no dumbass PvE poorly-scripted zombies to ruin your PvP.

Playerunknown made a mod of DayZ which itself is a mod of ARMA. At least two layers of direct iteration with a majority of game mechanics carried over from the previous two iterations and the guy has the balls to slap his name on the Title.

Dayz should have never had the standalone happening, it was the standalone that killed both it and the mod.

I played the dayz mod for over a year (was one of the guys who bought Arma to play it) and as glitchy and clunky as that shit was, was the funnest I have had on a PC.

Than that standalone hit the pre alfa fanboy market and everything went to hell, people migrated and abandoned the mod, huge problems with servers and updates, launchers wouldnt work, and many many complications.

Because we were playing and loving such a clunky and glitchy community made game, they decided they would still make money$ if they released a walk around doing nothing because there's nothing to do yet simulator and just start colecting money from day zero.

Dayz should have stayed in the hands of the community and its an exemple, that should be studied, of how institutionalization killed a game
