Because the new games constantly shove multiplayer features in your face that only work in high-density urban jap neighbourhoods, leaving the rest of us with a depressing feeling that half the game isn't even going to work for us.

They did this with DQ5 and I was so mad back then. I had recently gotten into DQ via 8 and tons of emulation. I played the NES version of 4 and the SNES version of 5. DS emulation at the time was dogshit and PC was even worse. I went to gamestop to get 5 since I liked it more, but they only had 4. I settled for 4 and loved it, but I really wanted 5. I eventually got 5 via flash carts and I loved more than 4. I did end up buying it like a year ago from the SE site during some sale though. Can't find 6 for $40 or under anywhere though.

Because they're boring as fuck when it comes to turn based combat. Literally every other turnbased game square have shitted out were more engaging. I mean sure i appreciate what they brought to the genre but they're just to basic now for me to care.

It's quite possibly the comfiest game ever made. Combat is super simplistic and the camera control could be better in small, enclosed spaces. Other than that it's great, I highly recommend it.

If you do get it, I recommend playing through each chapter at a leisurely pace. The funnest part of it for me is building the towns.
There are chapter challenges to complete it within a few in-game days though which is why I say this.
