I like the idea of being a sniper, of being precise. I also prefer guns over medieval weaponry though. So inevitably in RPGs I end up going with things that are as close to a precise sniper as I can get. And that's pretty much that faggot on your post.

Because in a lot of RPGs the combat system is so barebones that this is the only kind of challenge there is.
Take Skyrim for example.
As an archer you at least have to move your reticle over the enemy before clicking, which isn't much but more than what you have to do as a mage or fighter.

I did just fine dual wielding daggers.
Righty was enchanted with paralysis, and Lefty was enchanted with the soul steal bullshit, so neither ever ran out of juice.

it's the most efficient playstyle

you're out of hitting range for a lot of enemies so you take less damage
you're out of aggro range for a lot of enemies, so you only engage the enemies you choose to (stealth helps this too)
you don't need to navigate terrain to engage your enemy, so there's less time spent walking between each enemy
enemy comes to you rather than you needing to come to the enemy

it's not the most fun, it's not a role that people admire, it's just the most efficient way to do things
why would you not be a stealth archer

Anti-fun. In oblivion I made a spell with paralysis and weakness to magicka. Cast repeatedly with impunity until a bass damage spell can one shot the enemy.

I just like bows, I like their aesthetic and the skill needed to use them. There's a satisfaction with them I get that other weapons just don't give in games.
I'm sneaky sneaky in vidya because I hate the thought of something coming up behind me- Oblivion's loud fuckin hit noises traumatized me so I make sure not to let anything creep up on me.
