Yeah games can be still fun but the majority of the playerbase will try to copy "meta", play around the "meta", and blame on others when they fail at playing the "meta". Do something besides a "1v1 life point race with creatures". 1v1 leads to stale metas and practically requires constant expansion.

Make a co-op card game where 3 players work together against a boss. Or one where 4 players compete over a central pool resources. Or do some sort of Mafia-style social deduction mechanic.
