If you really want to do Nightmare, make sure to level up Rean at least into the 70s. This has a lot to do with the true final boss, and it's a big pain on this difficulty. I'd honestly recommend Hard for a first run since Normal's just too easy but it's not as spiky as Nightmare gets starting around Chapter 5. Also research late-game Master Quartz if you want to have an easier time breaking combat.

That's true of the Sky games, yeah, but in the Cold Steel games they were there from the get-go and they're generally easy enough that you can probably muscle through them on Nightmare without serious difficulty.
Hard is pretty much the same difficulty as SC Normal. Nightmare is a bit above that but not as hard as SC Hard. I never played below that so I don't know how easy it gets.
You need to do two playthroughs anyway for 100% so if you only care about the achievement there's nothing stopping you from pussing out and doing it on NG+.

You can pretty much avoid all of it to be honest. Some of the casual clothes look good but they're individually overpriced and probably not good enough in general to be worth buying for everyone, and if you don't do so it makes the characters you did buy it for stand out in the first game due to school uniforms (though they carry over to the second game where this isn't an issue.) Pic related is sadly the best group shot I can find.
All of the other DLC is shit and should be avoided. Frankly you should avoid the above too but I'm not going to stop you from letting you save your waifu Emma/Fie/Elliot/whatever from the shitty school uniform since that gets really tiring after a while.

Longtime fans of the series know the game as Sen no Kiseki, which roughly means something like, “The paths/trails of a flash/flicker.” It’s typically meant to represent that glint you see on a blade being drawn as it catches the light. It’s clearly not a very easy word to render in English and still make sense with the current “Trails” moniker, so we dismissed the more literal “Trails of a Flash” and other similar titles rather quickly.

I suggested Trails of Cold Steel for several reasons:

• The story is based around Thors Military Academy, a place in Erebonia where many young political upstarts balance school life and war tactics as part of their daily curriculum. Conflict and weapons are something of a theme in Cold Steel, and I wanted words which were specifically reminiscent of steel blades.

• The term “Sen” is a fairly serious word—"Steel" alone wouldn’t have set the right tone, but “Cold Steel” together helps reflect the strain of Erebonia’s intensely classist, military powerhouse society.

• Being a big fan of the Trails series myself, I’ve bought every single soundtrack related to the series. Even before we had the rights to Cold Steel, I’d bought the soundtrack. Hell, I bought it day one! And the main battle theme (which is a killer track, I might add) is called “The Glint of Cold Steel.” The second I saw it, I thought, “Well, that has quite a nice ring to it!”

• When Ken and I were in Falcom’s office and proposed the English title, they immediately smiled and said, “Actually, we once considered using the word ‘Steel’ in the title ourselves, so that’s perfect. We like it.”

So, there you have it. As of now, the official English name of Sen no Kiseki, completely endorsed by the original developers themselves, is Trails of Cold Steel.

Zero is by far the worst kiseki game in pretty much every single aspect. It's like you take all the weak points of the first sky game and amplify them tenfold, and the result you get is zero.

Crossbell is small, and by the end of chapter 1 you've already visited the whole land the game takes place on.
