whether it was publisher or developer decision, releasing right smack the fuck in between battlefield 1 and call of duty infinite warfare (and modern warfare remastered by extension) was a terrible idea and single handedly caused the game to flop commercially.

I did see an ad for the ultimate edition on TV today though, that was a fucking trip. i just wish I could play it in modes outside of attrition though. 99% of the time everything else is totally dead. It's nice to have everyone pretty corralled but sometimes I just want to last titan standing.

It's eerie how little tf2 has to do with the first. To be frank when I first loaded it up, I said "This feels like a mod to titanfall". The single player is so designed so well, i never thought I'd love first person platforming as much as I did
The online is simple but in depth. It almost reminds me of halo idk why but it's just a lot of fun in every match. It has that classic video game feel

Minimal marketing and EA trying to sabotage the game.

You could argue the skill ceiling is lower than the first due to slidehops being much easier to pull off than bunnyhops in the first or that the new titans lack the customization potential of the first game's titans, but those don't negatively impact the game to the point someone doesn't want to play it.

Tone could easily be touched up in a variety of ways that doesn't leave it with a solution to literally every titan in the game, and let a class like legion be it's hard counter, since legion sucks ass against every other titan anyway. Titans could use better balancing but right now I'd say all of them are pretty equal with exception of Scorch being a tier below. Even with his recent buffs he still has a major weakness of one shit before reloading and primarily relying on his opponents mistakes. Also Legion is the long range counter to tone but ronin messes her up just as much at close range.

I don't think we will see much more drastic balancing in the future but it is something to hope for in Titanfall 3

EA was salty about their new $$$$$ IP tanking but they had a two game contract with Respawn so they gave the IP the 'Kiss of Death' to repay them for failing to deliver with the first game.

See, this conversation is exactly the reason why dumbing down the titans from the first game to hero titans in this one was a bad idea.

The different versatile loadout combinations are gone. I realize that some of them worked better than others, but a good player could manage to make the others work. The regenerating titan shields helped with that a lot.
Meanwhile in tf2, you select a titan with a locked loadout and after that it's just a matter of time until you run into another titan that's a hard counter to yours. There's almost nothing you can do when that happens. What's dumb is the fact that it's too easy to win if you find yourself in a reverse situation. With an Ion, you can literally melt legions.

And then there are situations were you are forced to give up titan health, because the lack of shields. A pilot ambush or a 2v1 titan fight can almost doom your titan. This wasn't so easy to do in tf1.

I really hope respawn will change this, if they ever decide to make tf3. These problems just suck the fun out of titan combat.

i don't know about pc but on console its population has only increased since the last FD update, theres usually around 13k-15k players on.
PC is faster cause mouse/keyboard but has half the players and half of those are reddit cancer.

your game was released in May, in the middle of the year, barely any new releases to steal your players and definitely no new shooters to even compete.
initially it had a decent playerbase but it was all faded away because they didn't like it, simple as that, your game isn't good, both BF1 and COD are also in decline in terms of players as well, they didn't do jack shit.
when it comes to TiF2, sure it has some subtle additions like titans, cloacking, grappling hook etc.. but its still very fast paced and feels like COD.
EA badly sandwiched it between two giants but it had a beta, plenty of free weekends, discounts etc.. and people obviously didn't like it enough to stick to it.

Apart from Scorch all the titans are pretty well balanced with the currents biggest hard counter being Ronin melting Tone.

The single kit isn't enough customization though as most just stick to their one or two best. I think only Monarch, Ion, and now Scorch are the ones who have good picks all around, but I do prefer the personality and differentiations the chasis have over the first game. A good middleground for the third game with 2's chasis and cores but with 1's customization would be perfect.

On the shields though I generally prefer how 2 handles them because chasing stryder's in 1 was ridiculous with regen shields and don't overlook how OP dashcore was, but starting with shields using 2's system would be nice

Why do people complain about the mech customization being removed? It was honestly worthless.

It was, but using it successfully never meant relying on auto executing, stunning or infinite blocking like with Ronin. And it's was made out of wet news paper. So good aiming, tripple threat bombing, multi target missiles and the arc canon were hard counters. You could even pick an ogre and laugh at it.

There is skill involved, but not as much as in tf1. It is possible to outplay someone while low on titan health, as long as you manage your shields well and work on maximizing your damage. Tf2 doesn't allow that. You're statistically fucked as soon as you run across a titan with more health. You can get around that if you have a core ready, but that's usually an I-WIN button, so that situation is moot.

I understand what you mean, but I prefer there being no shield because I really enjoy the battery mechanic. But strategically, you can leave the titan if you don't feel safe in it and set it up for a decoy to steal a battery. I've had my fair share of low health encounters, even doomed encounters where I could beat a titan with full health. Cover is a necessity in those instances and so is backing up. And the defensive abilities really help. If you can crowd control as a scorch, even with low health you can do massive damage and win, and you can do it with most other titans.
To me, it still feels very skill based, but I also think it emphasizes the pilot part of it all because you are constantly going back and forth.
