Whether or not you liked greg doesn't matter, nothing we could do could have saved their friendship. What he is going to do is out of respect for greg, it is much more noble to honor what greg asked rather than fight against greg and cause some court shit. Yes, if he fought it, he could win, but I think playing 120 games over again, and increasing your monthy video output is still the better route, both are hard to go through
>>
i've never even heard of this fucking guy

fuck off with your e-celeb bullshit

>>385888775
nah, I think it's super respectful of jirard, what Greg is doing is full Ken Penders-level greed.

jirard goes into a bit more detail: the two had differing ideas on what directions to take the channel(s), got in multiple fights, greg 'left' the show and their friendship ended.

judging from greg's twitter, he was fired and super bitter about it, and now he's filed a C+D.
>>
>>385889068
He said he "revealed" what happened in the video but really it's almost as vague as ever
He just said that they didn't agree on some personal stuff and had different ideas on business decisions.

He's going to play the games all over again from the ground up, basically new episodes of games he's played previously.
>>
>>385888304
He gets to replay over a hundred games. Games he 100% once already, its gonna be a hell of a lot easier and will ensure he has content for a good while.

Gregs a cunt, but I don't like either of them very much so whatever,
>>
>>385890121
he's saying he's going to completely remake every single episode, with new scripts, new scenes, etc.

completely brand new, and he's doing 2 episodes a month on top of his normal schedule.

>>385890208
yeah, but look at some of those games he played
>imagine wedding designers
>sneak king
>sonic 06
>>
>>385888304. To be honest it was also kind of a dick move. Instead of trying to just be funny, rewrite the scripts, alter his character in some way, he just fired the cunt. You can argue this is good, but his content didn't even improve thereafter.
>>
>>385890465
I disagree. greg's parts were invariably horrid and unfunny and the quality of the episodes went up 100% after he stopped trying to just make up for his segments with...himself playing a fool.
>>
Do you think he'll remove the entirety of the Symphony of the Night Super Beard Bros playthrough, or just the episodes with Greg?
It'd be pretty weird regardless since Greg's episodes were in the middle.

Guess I'll have to download the entire play-through.
>>
>>385890465
Greg always irritated me, his style of humor just never landed for me. It's not a surprise subs more than tripled after he left.
>>
>>385890635
I think Jirard said everything with Greg is going off, though the bulk of it has always been the original completionist episodes.
>>
>>385890614
Oh no, I definitely think Greg's parts were utter fucking garbage, but his content just became monotone. The issue I had with Greg is that he would interrupt the pacing and spout unfunny crap, the constant reuse of jokes, etc. He could have writ better scripts, but instead chose to fire him and handled it very poorly. If I don't find someones writing interesting, I could fall back onto their personality or comedy; that beard cunt has none.

People always reupload shit on their personal channels or other sites. Those episodes will be just as "lost" as the Chip and Ironicus videos where they make fun of the mentally disabled.

Also
>Insisting that videos with you in them be removed is selfish
>Keeping and monetizing videos of a guy you fired until he has to threaten you isn't

It's really not that cut and dry. You're characterizing him as selfish because he's inconveniencing you personally by doing this.

It's not an inconvenience, I have plenty of time to download every episode if I want to. It's just pretty funny that he's allegedly doing this to preserve his 'creative image' when the only thing he is literally known for is his work with Jirard, work which he probably only contributed about 30, maybe 40 percent of at most and I'm being generous with those numbers.

In the beginning of the video he said he'll be removing all the videos on September 1st.
But at the end he says that people have three, not thirty, days to watch and or download all the videos.

Did he just say that wrong? I've rewound and listened to it again and again. He really says three and not thirty.
>>
>>385892359

>>
>>385891880
>tells me off for assuming, proceeds to assume, himself.
i didnt know that fired cunt wanted him to take it down, i just thought he was embarrassed by the content. the reason i say its selfish is because people have a personal connection with those videos, and since i thought he was taking them down for being embarrassed, i considered it selfish. sit down.
>>
>>385892359
It's a mistake, he confirmed the September 1st date on his twitter.

>>
>>385889923
It's a revenge play.

He sent that email in the middle of the adpocalypse, specifically, Jirard's WORST month.
Jirard had said publicly on a couple of occasions how the MvC3 video only made about $35.
That was released on May 5, and Greg sent the email on May 24.

His intention is to fuck up the channel.
He's trying to play it as though he's doing nothing wrong, but the writing's on the wall.
>>
>>385892526
>tells me off for assuming
The fuck are you on about?
I'm just telling you that I don't think it's selfish and posited a reason that you may not see the other side of it. There's no need for the condescending, passive aggressive bullshit.

>>385892156
See, this is a more reasonable point.
I think what it comes down to is not wanting to be associated with the channel more than any impression that he has some kind of star power. He wants to cut that tie so people eventually forget, most likely.
>>
What is the adocalypse?
>>
>>385893118
Long story short, lots of companies pulled ad support off YouTube.

In response, YouTube made new guidelines for what can be monetized as a means to appease the companies.
But it's a shitty system and now basically nobody is making money from ads.
>>
>>385893118
Large amount of advertisers pulled out of youtube over perceived racist or offensive content being monetized possibly, when in reality it was a very real occurrence given how much youtube curtails what is able to actually earn money on their platform. It had large effects for nearly all content creators who make their career out of youtube, with some having their income on videos cut in 1/3 or 1/4 of what they were making per upload before.
>>
>>385892308

Oh yeah, they can just cut out every single instance of the CO-HOST appearing or speaking

THAT will turn out great
Just cut every single instance Greg speaks during the SotN playthrough on Beard Bros. It'll be fine, the episode's fine.

He also said his likeness "in writing," which I can only assume refers to any content that was written by him.
Which effectively means the first 120 Completionists aren't salvageable, because he co-wrote the show.
>>
>>385888304
I don't care what /v/ says, this place bitches about everyone. Jirard always seemed like a pretty alright guy, he personally beats the games so you know his thoughts are his thoughts and always discloses if a game was sent to him. Hell, the fact that he only occasionally plays whats brand new elevates him to a higher status than most youtubers alone.

Greg genuinely sucked. He was horribly unfunny. Now Jirard isn't funny either, but Greg would just bring these videos to a complete stand still. I'd skip every time he shoved his face into a video or started talking about bears.

And the fact that Jirard is literally going to redo all of the games he's already done is pretty based desu.
>>
>>385893603
It's a matter of principle. That's why we have the pony containment board. Just because a bunch of kids like this shit it doesn't mean that the rest of us should tolerate it.

Out of curiosity, if anyone knows, who would win if this actually became a legal case?
>>
>>385893990
Listen I'm not fellating the guy or saying he's in the right or whatever, I'm just saying that this idea that he must be doing this entirely to fuck their channel and he's anywhere NEAR the level of guys like Ken Penders is a bit much. If he actually wanted to ruin this guy he could have gone way, WAY harder.

I can't really begrudge someone who wants their work removed after a nasty parting, especially with how shaky web-content is compared to stuff like film and games. This isn't like the drama surrounding A Hat in Time, for example.
>>
>>385894335
If Jirard fought it, he'd likely win, especially if Greg had never signed a contract stating he had ownership of the content in any way or he didn't forfeit ownership after being fired.
>>
>>385894335
It depends if there was a contract in place around the time Greg was on the show and what it entailed
>>
>>385894271
I can't tell if you're actually trying to insult me but are too mentally challenged to do anything more cerebral than "suck a dick" and "fucking NIGGER" or you just wanted to blow off some steam.
>>
>>385894335
It depends on Greg's contract, but considering he was advised on all fronts, including legal council, to fight it, I think it's safe to say Jirard would win.

But legal battles are shitty and expensive. I think Jirard chose the right move.
>>
you know it sure seems like greg is being a dick, but we still don't really know what the original argument was. it surely could be true that jirad was so wrong that he deserves this.
>>
>>385894370
>I can't really begrudge someone who wants their work removed after a nasty parting
I can't either.

But Greg left the company two years ago, and only now has he come to request (with threat of legal action) to have his likeness removed from all things under the control of TOVG.

Maybe he didn't want to or think it would ruin the company or anything, but there's no way this move wasn't out of spite.

Just seems like they couldn't agree on what to do with the Completionist or the company. The more they disagreed, the worse arguments got, snowball into ended friendship.

Greg's passion is music, so he probably wasn't a good fit to begin with as the co-founder of a company making video game content.

Friendship dissolved from there.

Actually, you have that backwards.
A contract is the only scenario in which he couldn't lobby a complaint, as he would have explicitly signed over his likeness. Without a contract it's not as simple and his rights as a private citizen would lean more in favor of having his personage scrubbed from the videos. Less concrete elements like the content he wrote, however, wouldn't hold up in court.
>>
>>385896632
That's implying he didn't sign a contract.

>>
>>385896183
>>385896183
Greg sounds entitled as fuck, but Jirad is clearly a fucking doormat.
>>
>>385896972
>implying
Even niggers with contracts do this shit all the time. It's because Jirard either has to drop all those videos or spend a ton of money to go to court and btfo him. Please get a fucking clue.
>>
>>385896264
thanks doc.
>>
>>385896994
Bigger person, doormat. Little bit of column A, little bit of column B. I think he's doing it 1. Because Greg is obviously floundering on his own and 2. Because re-completing all those games will go quicker and he'll make more bank off of the fresh videos and the Twitch stream.

>hating on avgn

stop right there
he's the original gaming youtuber and he did a damn good job

most of the other so called gamers couldn't best snes games with cheats enabled

I love AVGN, but James is pretty shitty at games IRL, pretty well known fact if you've seen any of his LPs.
>>
>>385897131
Let's be real here: you jumped from it being inherent that his likeness is owned unless he had a contract out-clause to "of COURSE he had a contract specifically signing over his likeness rights!" because you don't want to lose an internet argument. I respect that, but neither of us know whether he signed such a document or not.

The point from the start was that, as a private citizen, people have a right to demand the removal of their likeness from these kinds of videos. The only factor at play here is whether or not he signed over his likeness.
>>
>>385897180
It'd be easier to just let bygones be bygones. I think the problem is Jirad numbered the episodes. If you just removed 120 episodes that were unnumbered, no one would know or care. Jirard clearly knows the episodes will get reuploaded somewhere else, he even fucking encourages it. It would be better to just move on, and make episodes on new games.

Greg floundering on his own was his own choice. He's clearly doing this entirely to hurt Jirard and it's working. He's literally allowing himself to drop a big old deuce over 120 episodes of work, which if Jirard is to believed, at 2 extra episodes a month, is going to take 3 1/2 years to replace.

I thought I was petty. This is some next level shit, I should take notes.
>>
>>385897180
>Because re-completing all those games will go quicker and he'll make more bank off of the fresh videos and the Twitch stream.
It also lets him re-do some of those earlier episodes that weren't very good and make the production quality more consistent.

This is an awful precedent to set. Going back and "redoing episodes" is a terrible idea. It should be done and moved on. The last thing you want is for your verdicts to change, or to revisit stuff because your content should stand on its own.

He should just do new episodes, with an old one thrown in every now and then for the sake of it
>>
>>385898215
>He should just do new episodes, with an old one thrown in every now and then for the sake of it
He said in the video that he's still going to do new videos, but instead of four episodes a month, he'll be doing six, with the extra two being redone episodes.
>>
He was easily the worst part of the show when he was on it, him redoing the episodes is a good thing. Having a hard reset on the catalog of games he can cover I'm sure makes it somewhat easier on him.
>>
>>385888304
Greg made every episode worth watching.
Now this series is totally lackluster, only being useful for that occasional game you're interested in.
>>385889198
Is that everything because that's still pretty vague?
>>
>>385893627
"Free money"

Have you ever worked a day in your life, anon? Redoing 120 videos and 100%-ing 120 games of varying difficulty is not "free money"
>>
>>385897965
No he says if he finds any of the videos on youtube he'll file a claim to get it removed
>>
>>385898736
Like Jirard is going to sit there searching for old videos of the completionist.
>>
>>385898412
>Greg
>even slightly entertaining
Hi Greg
>>
>>385898840
I'm certain within his company he has people to do that
>>
>>385897536
>but neither of us know whether he signed such a document or not
It's common business for all employees to sign contracts. Jirard's business/legal team would have to be clueless to be so stupid as to not have them sign basic employment contracts. It's so very clear you have less of a clue about laws and business than even I do so please do everyone a favor and fuck off. And considering his legal team was urging him so hard to fight it, it's extremely likely that Greg was under a contract that did not give him personal rights to the content he had a hand in making past being fired. Fucking mongoloid.

you want to talk about /v/ideogames instead anon?

Hey, 2012 was a different time, I was a young impressionable faggot.

Sorry buddy, but ever since underage Redditors invaded this place, /v/ hasn't had an actual thread about video games in years.

how new you are?

I think it's the opposite, what out of touch fossil made it lol.

Kick the lion while it's down, why don't you?
>>
>>385888304
Why hasn't the mods done their fucking job, and delete this godawful e-celeb thread? There is literally no moderation in this shithole.
>>
>>385899969
It's not against the rules
>>
>>385899969
Because anon on /v/ only three types of threads exist

>>
>>385898954
I would but faggots just call me a shill and the thread dies
>>
>>385899969
It isn't deleted because this isn't actually against the rules. Consolewars are but they never get deleted. If you want to complain about lack of moderation, at least get the rules right first.
>>
>>385891880
Greg clearly has no care or made any consideration for the audience that once looked up to him. It's a spit in the face to them and to Jirad. Selfish or not, this was uncalled for and like Jirad said, it's become nastier than it needed to be.
>>
I have no idea who these people are nor do I care.
>>
we're getting more obscure with e-celebs now?
when do we start talking about pcull44444 and josh jepson

>>
He's the one making these threads. Fuck off you manchild and get a job
>>
>>385901358
In the sense that he's discussed less than GG or two best friends for example, he is
the only reason he's being discussed now is because there's a bit of controversy. give it a week and everyone will forget and go back to complaining that egoraptor is bad at games
>>
>>385888304
His skits were always autism filled, unfunny garbage. Which shouldn't be surprising from someone who feels a compulsive need to 100% every game he plays even if they're not designed around it. I also didn't agree with most of his opinions on polarizing topics
>>
>>385901675
Skits are always the worst part of any review channel, that's not exclusive to him
>>
>watch a video with greg in it
>two unfunny guys talking, but one of them is just interjecting

>watch a video without greg
>one unfunny guy talking, and sometimes there's a bit with some other unfunny guys to sell a joke

Shit in, shit out.
>>
>>385897469
He got through LOZ 2 without cheats until dark link and Castlevania. Sure, I wouldn't call him a master, but I'd still say he's better than 70% of all gamers out there

what the fuck, when he left they said it was because Greg was getting married and going on tour with a band

then it comes out years later that was all bullshit and he got fired for some reason, and is now having all videos with his likeness removed
why couldn't they just be fucking honest in the first place?
