STOP USING LEVEL 40 CHARACTERS FOR VOTING GAUNTLET.
Use a level 1 character. It will match you up against 3 level 1 characters EVERY TIME while letting you use your friends' level 40 characters. You will NEVER lose if you do this.

It's not THAT bad for durable infantry unit. I recently pulled a +spd Ephraim, he has 29 speed, 4 speed over his neutral. 29 speed, buffed to 33 with hone speed, is enough to not get doubled by all but the fastest units and still double some of the slower units like an unbuffed Xander.
