Yes. Although there are links as well, but they're usually limited to certain characters. Slayer comes to mind since his combos and pressure strings rely on links. Combos aren't especially long either, although when you do optimal stuff down the line expect the combo count to break 8-9 or so.

She is one of the most unorthodox characters in the game and hard to learn compared to more straightforward ones. Same thing happened to me and I basically bought it because of her, but discovered there are a ton of fun characters in the game if she's too hard for you to wrap your head around.

For Sol you specifically has to bait his shit then rush in to punish because trying challenge sol head on is a bad idea. You can do that by adjust your spacing with dash then FD. Fake iAD and fake your command dash approach. You generally tries to get a knock down and then pressure.

He's canceling the normal with a special move called mist finer, which is a stance attack he can hold or cancel. He's cancelling it and immediately attacking again to cancel it again. The latter has piss easy execution with a movelist akin to super smash bros. He's a bit read based. His gameplan is essentially "I fucking dare you to go in the air" because if you make a mistake of ever contesting airspace with Axl you eat a lot of damage because of his normals that over a wide vertical and horizontal space and hits twice. When you're conditioned to not jump or airdash, he gets you with command grabs and good midrange pressure options. He also has a DP.

Guilty Gear is a poor choice for a beginner unless you play Leo/Sin/Ky/Sol.

Just pick up a character you like the look of and fuck around until you're either having fun or not having fun. Go from there.

I started with Axl he has easy combos but he doesn't have any guessies so it gets pretty hard. His good combos revolved around tk bomber loops and they require a good amount of tech skill. I couldn't ever get the hang of it.

I love that Baiken feels like a character based 80% on reads and 20% on pressure. But fuck if she is not impossible to play online--at least the way I play her. 4+ frames of delay makes the counter nearly impossible for me to pull off.

Luckily, I was able to get two co-workers into the game and we're having a blast just slugging it out and improving. Offline play definitely benefits her more.

I dont like that her second ultra is damn near impossible to pull off with these small buffer times, but I'll take what I can get. Getting better at red parry seems essential to beating high pressure characters though, and getting a super from a red parry seems like it would be an ideal scenario.

Slayer and May are fun too.

All of i-no high level stuff, like her IAD bread and butter combos are hard and her fault defense cancel stuff is probably the among the hardest stuff in the game to do. That said a lot of her beginner stuff is easy to do like 2k 6p 5hs HCL~D so just starting out should be too bad. She's really unique though, so you'll hit a wall eventually where you'll have to lab stuff to get better. Some of the walls can be huge too, like the aforementioned fdc stuff.

I lurk these threads a lot and I played her since vanilla Sign and have like 1200 hours total against a lot of (US) pros. If you decide to stick with her I can probably answer any questions you might have, like combo shit or match-up knowledge. Hope you do learn her though. She's very rewarding, cute and most importantly fun

It's difficult to use it offline too, you barely see people use it period. Even good players do not make use of it much.

The key to Xrd Baiken is to play her like GG1 Baiken, pretend her conters don't exist. Don't even use them unless it's that rare opportunity where you are absolutely certain you can make it work off of something dumb and obvious the opponent is doing. Also making it a rare use will throw your enemy off because they won't expect it. Make use of her other tools first and foremost.

Keyboard
The window for the S and H slash is very short and doubly so it seems when online play is concerned. I couldn't do it consistently by holding H+S and pressing S when the purple flashes - I believe the main issue is that it takes extra time to lift the finger off, on top of the already good reaction time needed. You can however hold Azami with only S or H once you've already entered it with S+H, making it easy to just mash out.
Granted, holding Azami for longer than a split second in close range is asking to get rekt anyway.

Her gameplan is easier than it seems. End all your combos with 4d, when you get some space place a house, hs or 6p is good to catch your opponent if someone tries to come in on you while you're placing them. Once all three are up just clock up the minions and corner your opponent. If they have projectiles get your field up after the first house to protect it and yourself.

It could be worse. Jack-O' has a grab with a pretty wide range that comes out fast, so if you see a minion coming in at a bad time you can drop your combo and grab them when or right after it goes for the hit.

why can't I set up pressure with elph?

I can combo, get knockdowns, play neutral, etc but no matter what when I have an advantage in the corner or elsewhere I immediately lose it and can't unload on niggas with the shotty. I'd honestly pay good money to see something where the main antagonist is an overhyped guy like Satan or King who just sort of rolls with it and has a perfect bluff.

Agree. It's the kinda mindless entertainment I can get behind.

And both have better plot than anything the west has pulled out like Destiny and MGSV.

I just hope the series ends with Rag coming back home and being able to fuck Rachel. That relationship still confuses me but it's cute. And better than Twilight.
