A studio could make one right now with current technology and a lot of funding, but they wouldn't because the install base isn't large enough. So the real question is, "When will the install base of VR and the popularity of MMOs be large enough at the same time?"
The issue with VR is that you need to be playing at 100+ FPS to avoid motion sickness. Combined with the fact that MMOs need to display 100s of character models on screen, it will cause lag like no tomorrow. So VR MMOs won't be viable until the average PC in someones home is a supercomputer.
