Like I said, if you think of certain things in other games as being "flavor" aspects, GW2 is mostly flavor with enough skill that the PvP scene is actually pretty entertaining

It also has an action camera mode if you want to play it like a more console-esque action RPG

I bought all GW1 games at $60 because they were actually separate, new games with equal features of the first game minus 2 new classes vs 6 core classes. HoT was a paper thin piece of shit that was priced at an extreme price of $50 when historically mmo expansions actually had content and $40 was the agreed price. So it's not that I expect all mmo expansions to be $30, but HoT was an actual fuck up that stirred up a shit storm and it's quite insulting that they're asking new players to pitch in another $20 (it was $25 on sale days) as some kind of sweet deal.

Yeah, I agree. Each one was designed to be a standalone experience AS WELL as being an extension of the overall story. It created a real Bizarre Adventure feeling.

Like I said, I enjoyed HoT and the ease of access made me more willing to pick it up versus something like Stormblood or Heavensward or any of the WoW expacs that let you uplevel. So I come here knowing its a niche that I only really get from them.

Another thing that works both for and against the HoT pricing is that the base game went free to play. So on the one hand, you now get the full suite of shit that was in the base game if you come in with a free account to buy HoT. On the other, there's a blatant disrespect for vets that's implicit in that decision that rubs me the wrong way and I think it's still there to a degree. If PoF's content is worth at least half of the joy I've had with GW2, I'll say they've started focusing on veteran players finally

Yes there is. As of now you can get max level and play all the content that was in vanilla, with a catch.

That's my measure: if the thing they're giving veteran players is actually something veteran players have been asking for and will enjoy.

Let me put it this way: HoT was incredibly skim on actual content, despite the size of zones. If PoF is actually a meat and potatoes expac that has content net worth that is half of the base game, it's a good deal in my book.

As far as how to get HoT for cheap, I'd say try to start a petition to have Anet drop the price of it to $10...they don't listen to fans but if they think it'll sell more copies, the might do it...especially given how they discounted the base game just prior to making it free and HoT's release

It's been solid since LS3 started.
LS1 was garbage, the factions were sort of interesting but Scarlet and the actual character development they tried was weak as hell
LS2 was okay if only because they focused on mystique and the new zones a lot which added some exploration and discussion back into the community
LS3 has been pretty good: new zones and lots of new intrigue and less poorly written romance. Even HoT was pretty light on any romantic elements in the interactions...they were all mostly pretty bearable for the most part.

PoF actually reminds me of the GW1 in terms of how the stories are constructed

HoT is only if you have 5-10 friends who are willing to help you level masteries through events and you absolutely want to play through the content there.

I'll list some of the content and issues with HoT and you can determine if any of it is a dealbreaker because I wouldn't say that it has 1/3 the content of the base game (If the price point is $20 and the base game was $60, it ought to have 1/3 the content):
>4 new zones that have their own meta-events where all the 'hearts' have been replaced with quests that contribute to the meta event
>These meta events need lots of people to function properly, though you can usually get into a megaserver with enough people most prime time hours
>instead of leveling, you get masteries which are huge exp sinks that reward you with location-specific benefits
>each of the first three areas are centered around a single mastery plus some that affect all areas
>You get a hang glider you can use in ever new zone and most cities
>The story can be run in about 6 hours
>There arent many new armor sets
>there aren't many new weapon sets
>enemies are more complex now and more interesting to fight, both individually and as groups.

Surely this time we'll get better post-release content than a long-ass drought followed by small fixes to expansion maps, 3 new fractals and 6 small, expendable maps that foster the story instances. I'm positive though, Mike o' usually never says something unless it's certain, and he seemed confident about the new release schedule, so they seem to have gotten their shit together.
On a lighter note, the new specs seem really cool and with a lot of flavor similar to that of gw1 classes, rather than just being the core class with more deeps.

The benefit, on the other hand, is that you only need to do it once, the masteries are account bound.
The intention is that you burn through the zones with one character one time around for the story, getting just what you need.

Then, every next character you use to go through those Expac zones benefit from the previous unlocks and unlock new ones, like a NG+ sort of thing

In HoT, singleplayer is almost impossible.
The zones are not the Hearts from the basegame but are events that are part of a map-wide meta event.
These individual events within a map are generally pretty hard and some are impossible or unreasonably time consuming without more people.
The best you can do is grab some players from the reddit to help you through the ones that you need to do the story.

As for PoF? I have no idea if it can be solo'd or not

I'm torn on FFXIV, I played until level 35 and loved the bosses and aesthetic, but the slow GCD and heavily instanced areas with """cutscenes""" every five minutes made everything not bosses a fucking slog

This is another issue.
I actually enjoy the idea of masteries but the simple fact is that the cost of them is about twice as high as what it ought to be. I'd be happy doing a NG+ with my other toons but the amount of exp from the Maguuma maps, mixed with the spotty instance population and the NECESSITY for large groups in order to complete events makes the whole thing feel like they were designing just for that initial rush of players and no one else.

It doesn't help that some of the benefits of the masteries are just broken, like the Exalted Recall that lets you call in an Exalted friend who does NOTHING (I hear he's supposed to heal and revive but he never does)
