I can't think of any other JRPGs that are absolute ''you must athleast try that before you die'' tier.

If a JRPG has random encounters then it should be disqualified from any must play list. No one has time for that artificial padding. Chrono Trigger is one of the best games because its fights are scripted.

I would say yes. They have great world-building and once you get enough orbments the combat system is fun.
However they can be really wordy and your enjoyment of the game is proportional to how much you like the story/characters.

Think of the series as a RPG/VN hybrid.

I honestly hated most of the cast, and I found the game to be quite troupey, I enjoyed it a lot, and I would say it's one of the cimfiest games I've played.


Tactics ogre is worth playing, it gets dark, and not edgy dark, just dark. Great story, a lot of fantastic characters
