Skate 3 was super ambitious and introduced a ton of good systems into the series. that said, the gameplay always felt way too "floaty" for me. I know you could play on hard mode and it makes the skating a lot better but it also slows you down to a snails pace.

No, that was American Wasteland. Underground 1 was the one with the Skater from Jersey versus Eric Sparrow, the first one where you could get off your board.

AW wasn't that good at all, literally half the game or more is one giant tutorial.

I used to think THUG 2 was more fun but on replaying the series, way too much time in 2 is spent swapping between characters to do the gimmick goals, then completely ignoring the pro and guest skaters except when absolutely necessary and doing everything with your custom skater you've finetuned the appearance, stats and tricklist of.

The maps are alright and THUG2 having a classic mode is a huge plus compared to 1 (even if the old levels are kind of hit or miss- School over School II? I know S2 was in THUG1 but pick Hangar or something then! Plus the new goals are kind of whack at times and Downhill is still a fucking garbage level), but there's just too much Viva la Bam gimmick stuff instead of actual skating.

Did you not play Underground, or just not remember it? It's hard to forget Hawaii, rooftop to rooftop, thirty stories up- usually people don't forget it just 'cause of the story mode's antagonist.
