All games before OoT involve Zelda being blindsided by Ganon, and still managing to prevent him from succeeding (Splitting the triforce in the original game, summoning Link in Alttp, etc.). And it's funny you mention WW because it literally shows that Zelda has more than enough ability to adventure, being a successful pirate captain. It also shows that Nintendo fails at allowing her to shine by stripping her of this ability after her transformation. She isn't incapable, but Nintendo refuses to tap into the potential. The same is true in OoT where Sheik is consistently an ally that not only aids Link, but other key players as well (Ruto and Darunia).

Just go back to and play with the Light Force idea from Minish Cap. Do a sort of sequel where evil is plaguing the land (it doesn't even have to be Ganon, I don't care) and Zelda upon realizing that she can't have Link draw the Four Sword again (because it will unseal Vaati) decides to take matters into her own hands. She learns how to control the Light Force in a myriad of ways, with differing spells being what she gets instead of the standard items Link would get. Just hand her like a couple items like how Link would learn a couple spells (outside of Zelda II).

Her Dark Link equivalent could instead be a younger Sorceress Veran. Or Veran could just straight up be the big bad, whatever. Boom, done.

The fundamental flaw with the playable Zelda concept is that Link exists to do what no one else can. If someone else can perform Link's job, then Link's existence would no longer be necessary. Link exists precisely to deal with the worst-case scenarios whenever Hyrule's on the edge of doom. If Link doesn't appear, it means that the issue wasn't really that bad to begin with, or he just no longer exists due to time shenanigans.

I'd also like to remind you that the two times Link wasn't around to save Hyrule, it either got flooded or a shitload of people died just barely sealing Ganon off. So basically, if Link's not around, it either means that shit's royally fucked or it's really nothing major.

I want to play a Zelda political adventure simulator where she is transported in time to the height of the empire and has to deal with daily meetings with advisors and other lords/ladies and sometimes go on events/adventures all of which have choices that have a large effect on the story and bad choices which are not rectified can lead to very bad ends like her being murdered by a political enemy's assassin, or someone blackmailing her into exposing her romance with Link (who is her errand boy) and ruining her completely for having a romance with a peasant boy.

Spirit Tracks has the best Zelda by far. Aside from retarded fear of rats, as soon as she's in a Phantom she helps with everything from combat to puzzle solving. I would like a Zelda SRPG as others have mentioned where she leads her armies in tactical combat with base building enemies, bit like Nobunaga's Ambition or something. Pokémon Conquest worked so why not this?
As far as a Zelda game with Zelda as the protagonist, it would be interesting to see a game where Zelda has to step up to the plate because Link doesn't appear. Perhaps Link was kidnapped and raised as the savvy villain's right hand, and now Zelda has to pretend to be the hero to boost her people's morale while she searches for the actual hero. Over the course of the game she just ends up becoming The Hero(tm). It would be interesting to see a game where the usual laws are all over the place. Perhaps the piece of the Triforce that Zelda inherits at the end is determined in part by player action, with minor consequences upon the ending, but more a mark for the player. I can think of ways for that to be implemented.
Perhaps Zelda, at least initially, cannot use the Master Sword or the artifacts meant for the hero until like WW Link she has proven herself a hero worthy in the goddesses eyes. She makes up for this with magic (a là AoL's spells) or technology as BotW Zelda is a scientist. Rather than being able to use dungeon items she has to find powers in the overworld, and the dungeon items she instead recovers if any are more mundane. This could be worked into an open world design where Zelda can access dungeons before she can complete them and must seek teachers for those powers. For example, a Sheikah spell lets her become a shadow on the wall ALBW-style, or a Deku spell lets her transform stunned enemies into trees to climb to higher places, or whatever.
