The platforming in Metroid is hardly platforming. You're not expected to be incredibly precise with your jumps and the punishment for failing a jump is 90% of the time having to climb up again with the last 10% being maybe taking a little damage. Missing a jump in Classicvania is death and you have to restart the level, and many of the jumps require exact timing while having to avoid obstacles and enemies. There's also no power ups in Classicvania like the space jump or bat soul that negate platforming entirely, and platforming already doesn't matter in Metroid or Metroidvania games, flight is given out merely to unlock other parts of the environment because platforming is so trivial.

The similarities are not core gameplay designs, the only real similarities are the walk speeds and whip attack speed but you almost never use a whip in Metroidvania and short swords combined with short jump slashing makes your attack speed increase by 4000%. Everything else is totally different, the level design, the enemies, fucking levelling, equipment, stats, it is in all ways a brand new game. It is such a different game that if SotN was never called Castlevania, no one would have ever called it a Castlevania game. No one would have even assumed it was inspired by Castlevania, they would have thought it was a Metroid game. Hell, Iga wasn't even trying to make a Metroid game, he was trying to make sidescrolling Zelda and it still came out Metroid as fuck creating a new genre by accident.

It's not strange at all because the two are literally different genres. It's like saying if you like some 2D games you have to like all 2D games. I like Castlevania, I don't like Metroid. When they turned Castlevania into a Metroid game, I didn't like it. If Mario was turned into a Sonic game, no doubt people would be really confused and some might not enjoy it very much.
