ITT: games so good they ruined other games in their genre for you

This genre is dead anyways, but this is the peak.
at least before bravery bonuses killed public games and Turbine went full shlomo and added the astral shard auction house

I repeatedly considered playing this, but never did.
What even goes on in this game?
Unironically pic related, I just can't play any other MMORPG now it feels wrong and that fucking sucks, I love MMORPG
I haven't made a playthrough in like 3 years. I've heard recently that the unofficial patch fucked everything up but added way more content, is it really that bad? One of the complaints I've heard is that they changed the location of the raptor in the museum which is an absolute atrocity.

eh, it isn't that bad as long as you have basic. If you want a different experience, use Plus. As a first time user, I made the mistake of using plus because it makes certain things easieri.e you can save Tourette without 4 persuasion, skip the long segment of the sewers with 6 hacking skill, etc
SMT as a whole really.
Killed story-focused games for me even harder than original Nier did five years ago.

Pic related, the instagib mode is the most fun I've had with an FPS ever, nothing has come close.

Just use the basic version which doesn't have any of that, wesp added some pretty important bugfixes in the latest one, it's worth it.
Ruined literally every other JRPG. Nothing could ever come close.

KINDA ruined all other story-focused games for me. I mean: there are still some decent videogame narratives out there to be found, and no doubt other will be made, but seriously... after this it all does feel kinda trivial and pointless. It's sad to see that the biggest fucking revolution in videogame narratives has been done in 2005, but nobody took notice or lesson, and the shit we hail as narrative masterpieces today are laughable and still not reaching even the fucking ankles of this thing.

Do you think the remake will be as good as the original? I'm worried it's gonna be a Shattered Memories type deal where it's not even the same game anymore.

>Do you think the remake will be as good as the original?
Hard to say, of course. I have actually been entirely convinced that it CAN`T live up to the original, not even remotely. Combination of nostalgia and heavy rose-tinted glasses/my-mind-filling-the-blanks, me ageing and the simple fact that remakes are almost never better than originals made me extremely sceptical to the project. How many great stories have been utterly fucked up by their authors revisting them after decades?
That said, Marble Nest made me... reconsider. I'm still actively trying to prevent myself from getting hyped, but Marble Nest was MUCH better than I expected it to be, and felt like it knows EXACTLY what made the original good, and what could be actually expanded upon. It kinda blew my mind, honestly. Nailed just about everything I thought was vital about the original, did exactly the kind of things I (realistically) thought could make it better.
So since then... I'm allowing myself to be... cautiously optimistic.

I've only played through the game as the bachelor and I did love it. I'm trying to get through the rest before the remake drops. I really hope we get a Resident Evil Remake sort of situation where it's the perfect example of expanding the original game and punctuating what made the game great even harder.
