In Dota if you're a good player you can make a lot of bad things work. Also, since you can't switch heroes, you just have to play with them and see if you can win. OW is far more rigid in balance, some heroes are just objectively better than others.

Because Overwatch is about being good at multiple heroes so that you can adapt and counterpick to help make your composition the best it can be at any time. If you main any character other than Mercy, your skill will at least somewhat translate to other heroes should you need to switch. If you just play Mercy, you have absolutely zero skills that translate to other heroes. As a result you are locking yourself into the Mercy role, even if your team needs something other than a Mercy, thus handicapping your team. On top of that, god forbid, what happens when there are two Mercy mains on the same team? It's an absolute shit show.

Mccree's entire difficulty is in his executional requirements. Once you can headshot with him you're pretty much done. He's strong at all ranges and barely has to fear anyone due to his flashbang and high damage. His gamesense requirement is essentially to stay near an obstacle of some sort if you need to roll into cover until you're healed. Execution is much easier to train and improve than gamesense. If you look at it in terms of fighting games, anyone can learn a difficult combo with just-frames if they mash at it long enough, but if you don't have strong fundamentals and a deep understanding of the game you won't get anywhere. DPS on the whole (there are a few exceptions like tracer and genji) only have the execution with none of the gamesense complexity.

Because nine times out of ten they have bad positioning and don't know how to prioritize heals ("healing" a full health Rein with shield up while someone next to her dies, etc). Because they always try to get either a HUUUUGE RES!! or res two on the wrong side of the choke after the fight is over; they almost never solo res a high priority target when it would give the team an advantage. Because not having Lucio on KotH is bad. Because that Winston/Genji duo stack is going to kill her instantly at the start of every fight. Because "PROTECT ME GUYS!!".

Not necessarily. A lot of healers enjoy feeling like they have more control and impact on the game. They're generally more the type to see it as an objective-based game than a deathmatch. A lot of DPS get tunnel vision and chase kills instead of staying on point which can be tedious. I have the most respect for tanks though. Most people usually upvote the healer if they're on the cards at the end and they say thanks, but the tank gets no recognition even though they control the pace of every fight and usually initiate pushes. It takes a lot of work to be a competent tank in a decent team.

That would be true if positioning didn't exist. You need to be able to keep track of everyone's locations on both teams at all times, and keep a mental note of their cooldowns to know who to prioritise rushing to heal or who's a bigger danger to you. You need to directly manage your ult charge more than other characters too- that's where her pistol comes in. It isn't designed for people who get bored and want to DPS for a while, it's for quickly gaining an extra 20-30% ult charge to help teammates in dire situations but requires big risk to do so. I think you can tell how much people have played of Mercy by how they talk about her. Anybody can play a passable Mercy, but playing a great one is really demanding mentally. Way too many people dismiss her as being braindead and instead stick to hanzo/soldier spam because of their "high skill".
