You get bored and ask people for ideas. A cool gimmick gets your idea and several people get excited for it.
You put together a prototype of the gimmick and add a score and player input but when it's time to get feedback it turns out no one knows how to actually make any content.
Then you give up and just stalk 4chan threads helping with programming until the next adventure arrives.

Get some boxes or some text in a screen and add a shitty score asap.

Didn't make much visible progress last night, aside from making a UI icon for pencil marks. I redid the file I/O because my past self somehow didn't think that saving the original grid before it was cut into a puzzle would be important. I'm wondering what to replace the 'P' (number input) with on my UI. Maybe a pen to contrast with the pencils? Or just a number in a square so new players can visualize what it does?

Today I'll probably make my logo, set up my twitter, and replace all the shitty student projects on my website with this game.

Your lighting is terrible in all of your screenshots, the underlying geometry is extremely low resolution and basic, you're UV mapping and texel density is all over the place.

Shit man at the very least read some basic tutorials on how to properly light a scene.

Pro tip, it doesn't involve just dumping a bunch of coloured point lights into the scene.

Alternatively start with just modelling, texturing and lighting a barrel or crate because i'm not even sure you could do that to an acceptable level.

Thanks

Yeah, it's for a Quake clone a guy from /AGDG/ is making in his own engine.

Hoping one day to be able to make my own videomatic game

>>385850182
Thanks a lot!
It's for the Quake-like game being made by Coaldev over at AGDG. I think there's an early demo up for one of the demo days (without any of my graphics).

Is the $15+ bundle worth getting?

I finished making my text CYOA in C# after getting to the end of the Brackeys video series.
Any book/tutorial recommendations on where to go from here? I'm want to better understand how c# works and the branch out into learning how to use something like Unity or Monogame.

I-I'm doing fine. I swear this was totally intended !
I'm reading some documentation again and I think I just implemented it completely wrong.

For what? Publishing games on android and the shitty windows store? Sure.
For learning? No.
>>
>>385851094
as much as I hate it I could use it to publish shitty shovelware games on mobile to raise money for RPGMaker MV
>>
>>385851273
(Cont.) it could also help familiarize me with the game dev process since im only just starting out
>>
>>385851273
Why would you buy MV if you have GM? You can make games with it out of the box that shit all over the best rpg maker efforts that uses a hundred different plugins.
>>
>>385851273
if you think shitty shovelware is going to get you any money, you're already in a shitty mindset to be doing anything
>>
>>385851821
I've seen it work on the App Store. The large majority of the games on there are either copy-pasted base unity assets, blatant knock-offs of other games, or stupid meme shit and normies eat all of it up.
>>
>>385849478
That's assuming you make any actual money of your shitty games
>>
>>385839441
What are you learning it with? Because I would say that statement is very probably false and possibly the result of some massively deficient learning method/website/book/exercise. I'm not far into chapter 5 of Stroustroup's book (pretty much the beginning) and I've done about as much UE4 tuts as I can for the time and that's gotten me pretty far with at least understanding and making blueprints, enough to start making stuff. I get more frustrated with having proper Blender>UE workflow or advanced gamemode stuff (and I've basically given up on networking and replication for the time being). I think you do have those things and you just need a better method.

While I agree that my scenes have big problems, and that I could light it propely, you can't tell me I need to do some basic Modeling tutorials when I can do characters like that...

I really need to get my hands on an environment artist to help me, I can't pull this off all on my own...
>>
>>385842997
Whats your twitter then?

truly we are about to lose the only good dev thread left, all we need now is some discord and tripfags
>>
>>385852801

>you can't tell me I need to do some basic Modeling tutorials when I can do characters like that...

Pull your head out of your ass, your characters are fucking turbosquid tier garbage the likes of which poo in the loo students are churning out within the first month of doing a character modelling courses online.

You haven't even bothered to texture most of them, i'm guessing you can't sculpt worth a shit, you haven't bothered with normal maps, and i'd fucking hate to see your topology, let alone rigging, animation, I can already see that they deform like shit.

Seriously, concentrate on the basics.

I find that I have difficulty translating my thoughts and ideas for game mechanics and story and all that jazz into anything written or typed. I can't tell if its because I'm retarded or not but I become confused when reading my own thoughts, almost like my brain is going "Wait a minute, what's going on here? This is literally what I was thinking about."

Any tips beyond visiting a lobotomist?
>>
>>385853517
Try writing a design document for an existing game first, to help you get in the swing of things.
>>
>>385853517

If you can't even get your thoughts out onto paper, be it written or drawn, let alone verbalizing them.......you are all kinds of fucked.

Try drugs?

I'll do my best next time

What sort of drugs do you recommend? Keep in mind I don't know any dealers, or know how to find such people.
>>
>>385854104
Caffeine is the best performance enhancing drug
>>
>>385854104
Check out http://stemchallenge.org/resources/game-design-documents/ for some examples

>>385854352
I've built up a mighty resistance to caffeine from years of drinking far too much coffee unfortunately.

Coaldev here. A build from May is available here: https://rohit.itch.io/coal-demo-day-14

As Theonian mentioned, it doesn't have any of his models. Look for that in the next demo day.

A strict daily regiment of strenuous exercise, furious masturbation, alcoholism and incessant sobbing.

Why not just draw them? I like to draw ideas for boss fights and other shit occasionally, in a simple style. You don't really need to know how to draw. Also, fuck story. Sure it can /inspire/ mechanics but in my opinion you shouldn't be worried about that until your game is well underway. Focus on pure mechanical shit.

Ding, ding, ding.

Take note of these things Coaldev, in it's current state your game lacks all of them.

Start with putting the player in a room with a gun with something to shoot and have it be awesome, don't bother making anything else until you've done that.
