I think they fucked up by making WvW not a real part of the world. Should have been ingrained somewhere into the actual map instead of the "Mists" world, and provide some tangible influence on the game world instead of generic +10% boosts to random shit.

Because the human gods grant their favour to tons of non-human entities in the first game, and even some in the second. There's a grawl which worships a desecrated Balthazar shrine and he still gets mad fire powers from it. There was also that instance in the personal story where that Asuran grabbed some artifacts infused by Balthazar and uses them to kill the Risen attacking Lion's Arch.

The reason why you would worship them is that they aren't nearly as human exclusive as you think and they grant mad benefits.

FFXIV was definitely the nail in GW2's coffin for me. Around the time I started playing ARR is when I finally started playing GW2 way less regularly. I tried to get into it again with HoT and just ended up coming back to XIV.

XIV is just infinitely more attractive to return to, compared to GW2's model of locking out content you missed behind a microtransactions currency. No idea if they changed that but I assume not.

I took a long break from the game too and bought Heart of Thorns like way after it released. It's fun and I'd say a relaxing MMO. Or hardcore if you want it to be.
Some of the specialisations of the core classes made them more fun. Still don't like engineer tough. Every other class is great to pick up.
