That's just it; people are so used to one thing that existed, so anything that challenges their norm causes them to be concerned. If bears were suddenly confirmed for having thin scales instead of having fur, people would be hating on it just as much as those who hate feathered dinosaurs.

Besides, deadly prehistoric birds are better than JP dinosaurs, with the sole exception of the T-Rex.

Valve has QA Testers now? Surprising, considering the amount of trash on Steam that does not work.
>>
>>385826649
And other feathered dinosaurs have bald spots in those areas.

Feathers are not for warmth, they're for total insulation, animals of all sizes can have them

There is no record of an animal having less feathers as an adult. Attributing feathers to size is a misconception and oversimplification to the degree of believing that dinosaurs were around during the big bang

Left, actually.
And that tendency is not limited to mazes, but to any branching path, and the best example of that is a game like fire warrior, where in 90% of the cases the path to proceed is the left one.
>>
>>385826635
Because "feathered dinos!" is 90% circlejerk and "Science" worship. Some dudes find a few feathered dinos in China. This causes dunning-kruger idiots to drop the cocks they're sucking and begin proselytizing that EVERY DINOSAUR EVER NO EXCEPTIONS must be FEATHERED.

I understand it plenty as an anthropology major who has brushed with the subject and the people behind it regularly.
I guarantee to you at least large swaths of dinosaur species never existed whatsoever, paleontologists are fond of slightly changing out small portions of bone structures and naming their new Frankenstein's monster after themselves then selling it to other paleontologists or museums as a brand new species.

The community is rife with fat Jews who do this or attempt to do this nonstop. Ask anyone who works at a museum how often they're offered to exhibit this shit, even museums that have NOTHING to do with natural history. Try reading this, faggot:

Spectacularly preserved non-avian dinosaurs with integumentary filaments/feathers have revolutionized dinosaur studies and fostered the suggestion that the dinosaur common ancestor possessed complex integumentary structures homologous to feathers. This hypothesis has major implications for interpreting dinosaur biology, but has not been tested rigorously. Using a comprehensive database of dinosaur skin traces, we apply maximum-likelihood methods to reconstruct the phylogenetic distribution of epidermal structures and interpret their evolutionary history. Most of these analyses find no compelling evidence for the appearance of protofeathers in the dinosaur common ancestor and scales are usually recovered as the plesiomorphic state, but results are sensitive to the outgroup condition in pterosaurs. Rare occurrences of ornithischian filamentous integument might represent independent acquisitions of novel epidermal structures that are not homologous with theropod feathers.

another problem that these idiots don't understand is that feathers without beaks fucking sucks. Birds use their beaks for constant grooming/preening and they still end up getting plenty of parasites in there.

A small theropod, like a microrapter, might get by with a long neck and extremely narrow snout -- narrow enough to only grab and clean one or two large, broad feathers at a time. Something with a snout the size of an alligator, though? Can you imagine it trying to preen itself? What sort of precision do you think it would have when setting that one out-of-place feather back? Can you imagine it keeping a preen gland the size of a cantaloupe from getting infected?

Well birds are literally a type of dinosaur
Anyone who knows how to read understands that dinosaur, by definition, cannot be evolved out of. Every descendant of a dinosaur is considered a dinosaur.

This doesn't stretch to groups like fish because dinosaur basically defines every animal between iguanodon and megalosaurus.
>>
>>385831547
To compound this, birds are not too modern, all of your favorite dinosaurs evolved after birds

they also evolved after wasps and mosquitoes. That doesn't make wasps and mosquitoes into dinosaurs.

I disagree with the definition of "because X is related to Y, and X and Y were around in the same timeframes, Y == X", because then X and Y *lose* their definitions. There are obvious distinctions between modern birds and what we call "dinosaurs".
>>
>>385831547
>Descendants of Dinosaurs.
>>
>>385832069
No, there isn't, any distinction you make subtracts a popular dinosaur from the word dinosaur.
Dinosaur isn't defined the way other animal groups are, fromthe get go it literally includes animals descended from the group.

Linking Iguanodon and Megalosaurus as similar animals basically made dinosaur one of the most vague common terms in science

It *is* a counterpoint because the term isn't an exact science. It's up for debate. So when I say that I disagree with a standing, perhaps-even-popular definition, that's ok.

The problem is that the definition is debated by a bunch of jerks who have turned their own assholes into Plato's cave. They're so caught up in whether or not natural taxonomical descriptions should include "all descendants" (which they shouldn't, because that's as fucking stupid as it gets-- otherwise we're all fucking "single celled pro-fucking-zoans", by definition), that they're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Current dinosaur definition, plus or minus a few "who-cares" species, but not including what we define as "birds". There are few enough "close calls" that we can just push them to one side or the other.

It makes more sense to say "There are a million on this side, and a million on this side, and 5 inbetween we need to manually adjust" than saying "Gee, there's 5 inbetweeners. Guess we need to adopt something that makes ALL USAGE completely obscure!"

Nobody that says "Dinosaurs" is referring to birds unless they're making a phylogenic point.

It's a strawman, but it's allowed under the same fules when someone says "Birds are dinosaurs because they descended from some of the same ancestors as dinosaurs" It's declared to show that the rule is pure bullshit. The fact that you don't understand this simple logic is telling of YOU. You can't understand simple logic, so you rely on a professor in a white lab coat to tell you everything. How well will that work out for you when you discover that those lab coats don't necessarily agree on everything? Such as: The definition of dinoaurs.

Birds are different from dinosaurs. They were different then, they are different now. Calling them "Dinosaurs" is a perpetuation of the broken-as-fuck taxonomic system that everyone knows is broken-as fuck but dunning-kruger noobs think it's some magic wand of scientific truth.

There was a lot of this sensationalist news on this subject because of some paper that came out recently. It was really oddly written because it made some odd claims like direct comparisons about heat distribution between Elephants and Dinosaurs (generally a layman mistake because elephants are built like blocks), which is interesting because some big names like Phil Currie were on the paper. As for having scales, the article only really confirmed Tyrannosaurus to have non feathered skin on its belly and tail, which IIRC were the places we suspected it didn't have feathers based on phylogenetic bracketing.

Everyone seems to have forgotten about Nanuqtyrannus, which is probably a T.rex ancestor and had no reason not to have feathers.

Well an Argentinosaurus is the largest known dinosaur (>100 feet head to tail and weighed more than 200,000 pounds). Now I don't know much about dinosaur penises, but if we assume they had some sort of hemipenis, which is commonly found in lizards, and assume that its body to hemipenisn ratio was equivalent to hemipenis ratios commonly found in land lizards today (12-22%) then we can put its penis size at around 12 to 18 ft long and a few hundred pounds in weight. Jerking said hemipenis would be difficult for even the Mountain and would probably best be done be grabbing it like you're trying to climb a tree and shaking up and down. Now since hemipenes are barbed I would imagine this to be rather uncomfortable, and thus this is my answer for the hardest dinosaur to jerk off

>(generally a layman mistake because elephants are built like blocks)
T-rex is an even larger mass than an african elephant and an active predator. We know Yutyrannus developed proto feathers for insulation in the frozen wastes of mongolia. It was a specialized adaptation to a specific environment. Why would t-rex would retain this feature in a sub tropical environment?

>>385838803
If we go off of it being descended from Nanuqsaurus (I accidentaly wrote it as Nanuqtyrannus), it's more of a question of whether or not T.rex RETAINED feathers rather than actually had them. Given no animal that's ever existed lost feathers entirely after gaining them, I'd reckon there's a greater chance of it having feathers than not, although probably to a reduced degree than something like Nanuqsaurus.

>Given no animal that's ever existed lost feathers
the type of feathers Yutyrannus had were downy insulation feathers. These are not the flight feathers in adult birds of today.
If you've kept birds you'll know these primitive feathers are found in chicks which are shed and molted out of as they mature they are purely for warmth and are promptly discarded for flight feathers. Most modern birds have long discarded these downy feathers in their evolutionary past. The thing is large theropods dont fly.....

well as a previous poultry owner i can tell you the feathers birds are born in (the primitive downy feathers) are molted it out of and modern birds do not have them as their standard feathers in adulthood.

Nanuqsaurus literally means polar bear lizard its in an even colder and specialized environment than Yutyrannus. Why would T-rex a massive active hunter retain downy insulation feathers in sub tropical environment? They only retain heat they serve no other function.
furthermore and sorry to use Yutyrannus once again but Yutyrannus was completely covered in these feathers across its body however we have scale prints of T-rex in the same areas with no plumage. So it hasn't retained these features in sub tropical California.

T.rex lived in Montana and lower Alberta, not California. The Hell Creek formation wasn't exactly subtropical, but rather more temperate. Hell Creek's location also meant that there would be periods of the year in which the sun wouldn't rise at all for extended periods of time.

I'm not saying T.rex would have been completely covered in feathers, rather, in being descended from Nanuqsaurus (evolving in about 2-3 million years) it simply lost a good degree of them, but it's unlikely they lost ALL their feathers.

Pic related is known feather/skin distribution on Tyrannosaurs and related.

Not that I don't appreciate that they kinda just threw that line in there, but it was only in Jurassic World which of course came out 20 years after the original so they decided to get away with it by just kinda throwing that line in there. That and the dna is mixed with shit like frogs and stuff so more amphibious creatures = less chance for feathers.
