ITT: Discuss the effectiveness of bipedal weapon in the real battlefield.
What is the most believable settings in Robot related vidya.
>>
>>385792939
Should probably go to mecha if you want to discuss this
But that aside bipedal would probably have more weaknesses than benefits
Take out the legs and what does Sahalanthropus do now
>>
>>385792939
1 Bipedal huge-ass machine just like in MGSV
vs
Modern artillery
OR
Tanks
OR
Shitton of nigger with noobtubes
OR
EMP blast

>Bipedal technology is the future
>>
Shagohod utilize legs only for balance and cornering purpose, that was believable than its' successor.
>>
>>385792939
well to make it effective and believable, you would probably have to have it be one manned, have the cockpit armoured, kinda like the a10 warthogs, but enclosed, and make everything else easy to replace in the field.

the small one man cockpit would make a difficult target for dedicated anti armour weaponry unless they are RIGHT on top of you, but then most conventionaly armour would fail too.

get an arm or a legg blown off? no problem, jank the socket and dump in a new one in the field.

the small size and weight would make movement feasable, and it would primarilly be usefull in cities, cover and elevation wise.
seperated hand held guns so that if the arm gets blasted, the other arm could still pick it up and use it or take it back to base (and having to pic kit up is better then getting it destroyed)

Fuck, even Kirov is more reliable
>>
>>385792939
On the question of "effective bipedal weapons in the battle field" the answer is "no". Bipedal weapons, especially big ones aren't going to be useful at all in a battlefield. It's already complex as is, too difficult to make small and just presents a huge "fuck my face" target to literally everyone.
>>
>all these idiots saying bipedal weapons aren't they future
>Implying androids aren't the future of infantry warfare.
>>
>>385794095
To add to this what >>385793763
is saying is fucking madness, outside of easy to replace parts like treads or wheels we've got nothing even close to something with that much on the field modularity outside of infantry rifles. Not to mention the hell of making dexterous enough hands able to grasp weapons and effectively use them.

tl;dr never ever in real life, it's fine in vidya though.
>>
>>385794226
Not in our lifetime fren, we don't have advanced enough bipedal robots just yet, and power supplies, and intelligence are going to be the biggest issues. We're going to be stuck with conventional infantry for a long, long time, if not forever.
>>
>>385793938
The mooing noise is effective in freaking people out.
>>
>>385794350
>we don't have advanced enough bipedal robots just yet, and power supplies, and intelligence are going to be the biggest issues.
How about if humanity acquire enough energy, technology and other necessary supplies to invent robot? Is there a good reason to go bipedal than keep mass producing traditional mecha?
>>
>>385794350
Who said in our lifetime? That was never a condition. Also our lifetime is a very long time, consider how far technology has come in 50 years. Who's to say that in the next 50 years there won't be a discovery/invention as revolutionary as computers? Unlikely yes, impossible no.

And when you remove the condition you have forced it becomes an almost certainty that in the next 300 hundred years we will have humanoid robots fighting on the ground.
>>
>>385794680
Depends on too many factors, are they notably more mobile than actual tanks, are they generally small, able to carry as much armor and firepower? if so then maybe you have a case, but if you want a traditional big mech, anything that's not quick on it's feet like a person is, is going to get reamed by everything, tanks, air power, hell even infantry will get in on the train on that thing. Once they start getting bigger and bigger they begin presenting huge targets and profiles that you can't easily hide.

Bipedal works until something blows up it's legs. Steps on an anti-vehicle landmine and you now have a multi-billion dollar pile of scrap metal.

As cool as the concept of walking tanks is, it's simply not practical in the real world, it should remain in fiction. Now the shagohod on the other hand... that's a design that might actually work. but launching missiles has become so easy we don't need anything like it anymore.
>>
>>385794831
If you say not in our lifetime, then yeah probably, as we can only imagine what the far future holds. But in the next 50 years is extremely, extremely unlikely we'll see anything outside of the most basic prototypes for walking weaponry.
>>
>>385794880
On top of that, while I'm not a physics expert, I'm not entirely sure a bipedal design is effective for carrying a lot of armor and weaponry. an Abrams is 60+ tons, I doubt building a bipedal tank weighing 60 tons is going to be very practical, especially when it needs to cross over muddy terrain.

Maybe disadvantage of Bipedal outnumbered the benefits, then how about quadruped robot?
>>
Probably Gecko in MGS4 can outmatch the tanks since it's agile and capable to jump 2 levels high instantly to dodge the cannon.
Can you mention any obvious weak-spot of it?
>>
Most believable? Probably robots that are human sized and have the ability to properly balance themselves.

Most fun? Giant gundams that just beat each other up and fly around and shit.
>>
>>385795356
Spider tanks would work for space things, like zero-g environments and alien planets, still pretty meh on earth though.
>>385795563
Are you 12 years old?
>>
Poor Sahelanthropus get denied even in it's own game.
Probably Huey's leg has more demands in real life/battlefield.

>an actual 12 year old on /v/
how am I not surprised.
>>
>>385792939
The biggest advantage would be variable height, the ability to bend the knees to elevate up and down to 'pop-tart' over buildings or terrain, taking a shot before crouching behind a house or hill to take cover again.

Of course that begs the question of why you wouldn't just use a mortar or something instead.
>>
>>385796682
>implying it'd have the force to do that
I can only imagine how inaccurate it'd be, how much strain the legs would be under and would quickly fail and how fucked up things would get when it falls over on a botched landing.
>>
>>385794230
you know the hand part isnt hard right? it doesnt have to be perfect for anything, it just has to work.
literal 3 finger claw would work for picking up/holding a specially designed robo gun.
look up industrial robotics, robust holdign stuff mechanics already exist
(engineer here, its not as crazy as some might think)
>>
>>385795087
its why you dont go for armour except to keep the pilot and expensive things alive, everything else should be replacable or ablative. maybe enough to keep flak and 9mm's out but thats it.

Power Armor is plausible, with them getting no bigger than about 3 meters like pic related.

Full size mechs have a shitload of downsides and relatively few benefits compared to making a shitload of tanks.
>>
>>385796797
This right here. No one ever mentions the recoil problem when talking about mechs. The only way for a mech to be even remotely stable when firing is to have ludicrously underpowered guns relative to the tonnage and complexity of the mech.

A quadrapedal design would actually get around this problem, but then by not build a fucking tank?

As much as I love mecha they're ludicrously impractical, they do nothing that a tank or jet can't do more effectively.

>>385793938
Probably the closest a mecha will be to being practical, with how small and agile it is, also a great looking design; I loved how it could either stand up straight or hunch over and seem like an entirely different beast in either case, and the mooing and cricket chirp sfx were scary.
