I never lost faith in at least small portions of the western industry, mostly the indie side. Those two games were boring shit though. I liked Harvest Moon as a kid but Stardew just made me realize how fucking simple and repetitive farming is, you just continually invest money in one thing and get more out of it. There's no risk, no excitement, you know exactly how much you're going to get in how many days. I stopped when it turned out that the dungeon crawling was also absolutely terrible.
