Why do people say this game aged badly?
>>
>>385783052
they haven't played it but still want to shit on it
>>
>>385783052
egoraptor did an explanation of how it was shit or something, and because he did ebin newgrounds animations and played videogames on a couch with a fat persian people took him seriously for some reason, no one bothered to think "wait a second this guy can't figure out how to play games while the jew who hasn't touched a console since the NES and just watches him can, he might not be the greatest authority on this"
>>
Because it did. The rotational velocidensity is so bad on my old disk that the shadow temple has been entirely cut from the game.
>>
It's just button-mashing with shitty puzzles.

because it's a nintendo game, aka a game designed for children.

People want to "dethrone the king" but can't really think of any valid criticism, so they just toss out vague and broad points like "it aged".

DisC. CDs are Discs. A harddrive is a Disk.

I am honestly surprised how well it holds up considering its been 20 years.

Compared to most games out now OoT feels lackluster, but that's only because games have been doing what it did for years now, whereas back in 1998 it was astounding, especially when most franchises handled the transition to 3D poorly

I still say it holds up and despite all the sequels it's still the best 3D Zelda, which kind of says a lot about the direction the series has gone in
>>
It was bad back then too.
>>
>>385784112
Can you imagine that. Its older then half the posters on this godforsaken website.
>>
The first good video games appeared around 1980 and ocarina of time came out in 98
barely 10 years later now that we are almost 40 years in it makes sense that it would be decimated by time thats like comparing a painting made in the 1700s to something made in photoshop.
Don't get me wrong at it's core OOT is a good game but I wouldn't recommend anyone play the n64 version, 3ds is very fun though
Just to be clear I've completed the 3ds version and played a little bit of the N64 version
>>
>>385783898
hard drives are called disks because they have literal metallic disks inside them. they are the same word
>>
>>385784141
If Ocarina of Time was released today, under an indy game maker (with different named characters due to copyrights), even with those graphics, people would still say it's GOTYAY.

It more than holds up against the GOTY candidates from the previous 5 years.

idk I think the N64 version is more then playable. I know the 3ds version did some improvements but its not so much it makes the older versions trash. I actually played through it with a friend again on my old cartridge because it was easier to bring then my wiiU.

Its just a term people use when they don't have legit criticisms
>>
>>385784141
It's something that started up a lot of the conventions for not only 3D action games but modern games in general. If the 3DS release tells you anything it's that the game does hold up well because just polishing up the textures and other things made it amazing

You are both retarded
Disc vs. disk
grammerist.com
There is no consensus on the difference between disc and disk, and in many contexts the two are used interchangeably. Disk is the standard spelling for computer-related terms such as hard disk and floppy disk. Disc is the standard spelling for phonograph records, albums (in the figurative senseā€”a group of songs presented in sequence), and components of plows and brake systems. But both spellings are commonly used for (1) CDs, DVDs, and other compact optical disks; (2) flat, plate-like bones; (3) flat, circular objects, and (4) disk-shaped celestial bodies. There are trends: disc is more common than disk for CDs, DVDs, etc. and plate-like bones, and disk is more common for disk-shaped things in outer space. But these trends are not so pronounced as to be conclusive.

Egoraptor shot himself in the foot with GameGrumps as far as his game design opinions go. He lacks spacial awareness, he seriously can not handle games in 3D. A lot of his complains apply to every 3D game that most people here I'm sure have no issues thanks to the obvious "I gotta be careful, I still have guys behind me".

To Arin, what's NOT on the screen does not exist.

Or an autist.
His Zelda runs on GG are horrible to watch, he forgets how to Parry in Wind Waker despite it being crucial to break the game's dificulty to smithereens and forgets the entirety of L-Targetting.

But that's not the worst part, being incapable to remember controls, no. The worst part is when he SEES enemies, he runs past them, he stops to look at something and the enemies he passed by? Obviously they catch up and hit him in the back
>"OH COME ON MAN THIS IS WHAT I MEAN BY BAD DESIGN HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT GUY WAS BEHIND ME"
If Danny's Shadow of the Colossus run taught me something, it's that the former-drugaddict jew who hasn't touched videogames since the NES is better than fucking Arin at grasping 3D spaces within a videogame.

I always find it more enjoyable to watch Danny play than Arin. Not only is he not retarded when it comes to mechanics and 3D spaces, sometimes he's actually pretty good at it. Granted there are times where he just doesn't want to bother with certain mechanics but that's fine compared to Arin who likes to ignore integral parts of a game because they don't interest him.
Ex: Danny ignores holding pieces in Tetris because he thinks holding is for pussies
Arin ignores an entire level because he's bored so he does something to glitch the game and sequence break and then complains how broken the game is because it let him use an exploit

>Why do people say this game aged badly?

It really hasn't because I hear a lot of stories of people playing it for the first time and consider it a good game, just not a mindblowing game because everything it pioneered became standard a long time ago.

The reason people say it has aged poorly is because it has low replay value. And shockingly, people find the game boring after they've already beaten it several times.

Game Grumps was a fucking mistake, Danny somehow manages to be the only likeable person on that group/shitshow.

Really, when Arin gets out of his "safe space", that is the NES and SNES stuff, he fucks up painfully. Hell, even if he plays a same-generation thing like the Genesis chances are he'll fuck up.

I'm glad I got my little brother to appreciate the n64 games. He's 13 now but I remember him playing on my N64 when he was 10 when I sat next to him and he saying:" Zelda is the best thing a human ever invented."
Such childish love for an old ass video game. That's why MM/OoT still hold up today. And that was after he played lots of PS2 games like Sly or Jak.
>>
>>385786367
I agree Danny is pretty much the only likeable person there (except maybe Kevin who was only in a couple episodes but he seemed like a good kid)

Arin is autistic
Ross acts like a 12 year old and will do things so incredibly stupid it makes me wonder how anyone sees him as an adult (that one time he threw a croquet ball and hit Danny right in the head)
Suzy is bad for reasons everyone knows why just by looking at her
Barry seems nice but he's painfully unfunny
Ninja Brian is cool but his humor only mixes well with Danny and accidentally comes off as too intense with everyone else
I don't even know why Holly is in anything at all really
They might need to consider restructuring their LPs
>>
>>385785362
>He doesn't have a sense of object permanence? What the hell is he? A dog?

Amazing but it's literally true. He even said on GG that he withdraws his "enemies off screen" complaint because someone presented the argument of object permanence. I'm glad he's able to change his mind when he knows he's clearly being retarded, but it also comes with the fact that he had no concept of it before that point. Which is fucking baffling because it's a basic requirement for an organism's survival. If you go to the zoo, find a primate, and make a ping pong ball disappear under a cup, the monkey will be astonished because he's capable of a mental model where he expected the ball to still be there. Toddlers are also capable of this. Yet Arin is not.

I really love OoT, but it has its fair share of issues. Majora's Mask is almost just a better version of OoT as well as Twilight Princess. Dark Souls also accomplished taking everything good about OoT and turning it into a masterpiece. Just because there's games that do what OoT tried better, doesn't mean OoT should be labeled as shit, I believe it's quite important in gaming history.

To be fair, Bottom of the Well (and probably Shadow Temple) was the earliest dungeon programmed into the game, during the awkward transition from NES/SNES style Zelda to "pretty Link" modern Zelda.
I forgot where it was (maybe the cutting room floor?) where I read it but Bottom of the Well was going to be the Hyrule Castle sewers a la ALttP but got repurposed. That's why it has so much unique architecture and textures not seen elsewhere like those demon heads.
>>
>>385788692

Would you defend that atrocious Silent Hill "remake" as well?

Just because the OoT looks miraculous in comparison doesn't mean the changes are any less detrimental.

Nobody is saying the new OoT is garbage because of it but it most certainly detracts from the overall quality.
>>
>>385788692

The silent Hill "remasters" were done by amatures, oot 3d is much closer to the original vision of the game making it the definitive experience
>>
>>385788054
Hahaha, those old days Photoshop was such a fancy new tool they used real wood photographies/texture to color skull kid's clothes and just color-replace over it.
>>
>>385790081

I was pretty sure those amateurs were Konami themselves and the problem was they didn't have all the source data available from the original game and had to literally redo stuff but didn't keep in mind what the original design philosophy was.
>>
>>385790081
